This is a request for help - ideas, rather than a favour, though. I'll figure it out eventually, but maybe someone will have a brainwave!

I have some (large) bike bits that I need to pick up from Peterborough, more than can be carried on a motorcycle (or four). I don't drive one of them four-wheeled motorbikes with the fully-enclosed seats, so I am going to have to rely on someone doing me a big, big favour. I live in West Sussex, you see, so from Peterborough, that's a fair old trip - it's a lot to ask of someone.
Couriering the parts is not an option as the seller does not wish to risk it (and neither do I really). There's someone at my work who might help me out, but maybe not ... have to wait and see.

The question: how would you solve this problem?
One of the more entertaining ideas we had at work was to ask DSC members to pick the bits up and deliver them somewhere local to them, but gradually closer and closer to home - a DSC relay race, if you like.
"The bits have reached Surrey, only another four weeks to go now I reckon!". Could be fun though ... tracking progress through the Message Board. :D

Anyone have a better idea? Anyone have a worse idea?
Anyone have a freight hauling company?
Enjoy!

Good thinking, Tim. A u2u is on its way to madmav as we speak.
Thanks!

Anyone heard from madmav recently? He hasn't been "active" on the Message Board since 15 August according to his profile.

Has he got a business telephone number I can reach him on? Just in case email and u2u doesn't work. Thanks anyone!

Loz, Madmav is in the buisness directory under Bikerite.

Hope you get it sorted, Gordy.

Nigel, madmav has indeed moved in to another line of work. Not sure what that is at this time.

Loz, wouldn't it be easier to hire a car / van for a day.

Jon - definitely it would, but as stated previously, I don't drive!
Lessons to start soon, though ... so everyone, avoid West Sussex if you don't already do so.

You're right, Glyn, but in a car, you accelerate with your foot! Grabbing great handfuls of throttle just wears out the leopard skin steering wheel cover. Clutch with your foot, change gear with your hand? WTF? Crazy system!

It'll never catch on ...

Keith that's a really kind offer! I've got one or two irons in the fire (might involve kidnapping a fellow DSCer in his car and getting him at burger-point to drive me there). I'll let you know what's happening when I know.

Cheers, mate!

If you don't get it sorted give me a U2U, I live 20 miles south of Peterboro and often go there on business, and I go to East Sussex/Kent quite often so I could sort it. I have one of them big 4 wheeled holdall type things.

Monty, that's a generous offer, thanks very much! I have a plan at the moment (all I need is for the bloke who's selling the bits to get in touch with me again), but if for any reason it falls through, I'll let you know.

My bar tab the next time we all meet up (for the folks who've offered to help) would pay for a new bike. :D
What a club!

Answer to the puzzle would have to have paid for them on your credit card while I was there and I could have taken them back to Oxford with me and then delivered them to Silverstone on Monday. I'm sure someone there could have then got them closer to you Loz. I will send Scott a text to try and get him to contact you, I know he went to see a show in London yesterday so was out for most of the day and evening so would not have been able to respond to any emails

Damn. That would have worked, too. :(

Thanks Kev, I'll wait to hear from Scott.
