View Full Version : fairing nuts
that was a bit of a shock mate!
just putting bike back together after a quicke service.
thought it might be a good idea to replace about 5 of the rubber gromet like things that the allen bolts screw into to hold the fairing on as they were a bit manky and tight to get off. two i had to get pliers on the back of.
so i phones up riverside to get um to order us some, thought i might as well get ten or so to see me through , "thats exellent you have them in stock" i says to the nice man my next phrase was "how bl00dy much" after he say there a fiver each.thats 50 squid for ten.i mean its only a little nut in a bit of rubber for heavens sake.
so back to plan A then, just replace the two that were really naff.............unless
so does any one out there know of a good alternative??
Yep, I think mine are fifty pence each.
i'll give you 75p each for um then
Doh, if you want some u2u me, if you want to pay 75p that will include postage and packing.
Go to Pro Bolts mate. About £24 for a complete fairing set of anodised alloy nuts...I've got 'em on my bike, if you can remember what my bike looks like after all this time. I've got the gold ones which look good against the red (on the left hand side of my bike anyway - not against the orange on the RHS).
Get your tasty nuts HERE (http://www.tastynuts.com/acatalog/index.html?http%3A//www.tastynuts.com/acatalog/Tasty_Nuts_ST2_944__1997_2001__416.html&CatalogBody)
Jools,
Do the "Pro Bolt" fairing kits come complete with wellnuts as well then?
Coz I've just receivd a reply email from "Tastynuts" after asking them if their kits include the wellnuts - and they say 'NO'.
Both Probolt and Tastynuts kits are the same price though - £24.99. :puzzled:

Oh and Jools, anodised nuts are the devils work! Stainless every time please!!!
(got a full set of stainless fairing nuts plus engine case bolts etc from a US seller on Ebay. Very nice.)

Well I fitted mine over a year ago. When I got the kit I seem to remember that there were a whole bunch of welnuts in there which I didn't use because my nuts were in good condition - and the ones on the bike...boom boom! Although the nuts could've been in the screen kit which I bought at the same time. Thinking back though, I remember being well impressed with how complete the kit was and I'm sure the nuts were included.
The web site says that it comes complete with nuts, so I think you would be able to plead misrepresentation if you bought a set based on their description and the kit came without them.
As for anodised nuts being the devils work Mr Rockhopper, I'm quite pleased with mine. Perhaps that's because I'm a little devilish. Seriously though, they look good, they haven't seized up and they're very light which shaves 10 seconds off my time round Cadwell

Ummm, that'd probably be because they're the same company.... :frog:
And Glyn if they're just the bog standard well nuts they should be in the region of a £1 (+VAT) or so each from Ducati. Either Riverside are quoting you for something else or they'll want you to drop your trousers and say "Oooo" next...

I got mine from MCA, just a plain bag with 10 hex bolt with rubber nuts, I think I paid £3-£4 for it. They're a little bit shorter but they work.
As far as I can tell they're just generic fairing bolts.
a cheaper way to well nut happiness is to got to your local fasteners supplier or building merchants and get them from there.
Sparkys and builders use them for fastening into plaster board or such like.
I buy mine in boxes of 50 in M4, M5 and M6. The only ones I can't get that way are the tiny fairing and screen ones on SBK's as they are a M4 fine thread.
If you can't find any let me know and I'll price ya a box up. Split them between friends and you should be sorted for life
:P
