I need to get a socket to fit the rear wheel nut on my 749 - what size do I need to get? Should there be anything included in the fully comprehensive toolkit supplied with the bike?

my 999 has a 36mm rear wheel nut. You may find it difficult to get a socket that size with a 1/2 " sq. drive, which means a 3/4" drive with a 3/4 to 1/2 drive reducer - assuming you have a 1/2" drive torque wrench.

Halfords do a 1/2 inch drive socket in their impact socket range. Works fine. You'll need a bloody big extension bar to get the nut off the first time though...

Cheers guys, got a 36mm socket on a half inch drive and it fits perfectly. Now all I've got to do is get it undone, particularly as a new rear was fitted recently!!!!! Any strong people out there who live in Surrey?

I'm adjusting the chain, but these new bikes are not straightforward to do.

Weeksy - thanks for the offer m8, I'll let you know what's going on. Is the misses also on offer?:D

So he can ride but not swop ...

The geneorosity in the DSC knows NO bounds ...

Webby shouldnt they have made sure it was the right tension when they put the wheel back on ?

Webby, can you let me know how you get on adjusting your chain i've got a 749 and the chain is looking a bit slack, was going to take it to the dealer and get them to do it but if its fairly straight forward will attempt it myself.

Regards Dave s.

Dibble I've done 1,500 miles since they fitted the new tyre.

Dave S once you've got the wheel nut undone, then your next problem is trying to undo those adjusters - the thing in the toolkit doesn't seem up to the job. Eventually found something in my toolbox that fits better and after that it ws plain sailing.
