offence advice?

I got caught speeding unfortunately over the weekend, basically was said to have done 86 in a 60 limit on an A road as I put my foot down to overtake someone.

It's bloody typical - I had been careful not to speed because I was in an unfamiliar area, and there seemed to be loads of cameras about that I couldn't spot too well. Anyway, I got pulled over by a PC with a radar gun...

Apparently he couldn't give me a fixed penalty because it's over 25mph over the limit, so its a magistrate's summons in the post he said.

Does anyone have any advice on what I should do, or what I might expect to get - points and fine-wise??? I didn't see any documentation as I didn't ask at the time (whether his radar was calibrated or tested that day - will that make any difference?).

Sorry to hear this, sounds like you were stitched. Courts are familiar with the calibration ruse and so are the Police so it's not usually accepted these days. Expect 5 points and £150 fine.

Thanks Everton. It's so bloody annoying, I was being really careful not to speed atall cos I didn't know where the camera were and it was dark so didn't want to get caught. I overtook this muppet who'd been holding everyone up at about 30mph for ages, I then slowed again, and then this car gradually chases me down, follows me for a bit and pulls me over.

1. Get yourself a solicitor
2. Don't make any statements until you have one, and he is present then
3. Get a copy of the statements there and then, photocopy etc
4. See what the solicitor says, if you have a chance etc
5. If not, plead guilty straight away, courts like someone who admits they were in the wrong... plus the fine etc will be less, as they don't need to call witnesses, thus not passing the cost onto you for their unpaid day off work!

don't want to put a dampener on things but if you plead guilty its going to be six points me thinks ?
if you have the space on the licence just take it on the chin.
I got a letter through the other day asking who the driver of my car was because it had been caught doing 37 in a 30. thanks sir three more points please
