View Full Version : Weymouth / Dorset Rides next Week

I'll be staying coal to Weymouth during next week with my 1199 and wondered if any local groups are having meets or rides in the week? I'll be running her in so some nice back roads, sweeping As and hills should do the trick. I reckon Dorset must be one of the best counties to bed a new engine in.

If anyone is local and wants to get out for a blast then post or PM me on here. I'm getting very excited now and feel extremely privileged to get my bike with only a couple of weeks delay considering the supply issues following the earthquake in N Italy.

Roll on next week!

I'm in Lulworth chap a few miles down the coast. There are meets on a Wednesday evening down at West Bay nr Bridport and there is a lovely coast road from Bridport to Weymouth. Yep they also still do the bike nights in Weymouth or you have Poole quay on a Tuesday night.

Regards, Dave

Don't trust Vodafone chap. I've just checked the weather on the Met Office website. It will be raining early afternoon on Wednesday but will then be cloudy with some sun late afternoon/evening.
Might just have to make a call on the day or night before?

Wednesday is looking good now with the possibility of a bit of sun:D We could meet you on the sea front just up from the mini roundabout if you like. What time were you thinking about?

Abe - The sea front is pretty long... I'll hang around but the roundabout end parked next to the beach and ice-cream hut.

It would be great to see a few dukes out tonight for the meet in Weymouth and ride down to West Bay Bike Night. This week's weather has been atrocious and worst to come on Friday. Tonight could be our only chance!

See you there.

Yep good point. You know half way along the sea front you have the traffic light junction just next to that there is an area where you sometimes see bikes parked. We will meet you there if you like? Were you at Poole Quay last night? there was an 1199 there.

Cracking ride last night. Thank you for showing such hospitality and letting me join the group ride out. weather, roads and company made for a fantastic night. If you ever make the Nurburgring trip drop me a line and I'll meet you there and show you some of the Eiffel mountain roads.

Cheers.

Was good to meet you Sam. Your crazy ridding that beast with a leg broken in four places!:D I must say the Panigale is stunning! and what a noise it makes!
Turned out to be a nice sunny evening for a good blast:D I will take you up on the offer of the ring if I'm in Germany again. You need to get the engine run in and have a little top speed fun on the autobahn:D
Take care mate and you and your lads have a safe tour.

Right then guys, get this meeting into the calendar as a regular event - you know the best meeting spots and times now, so it's simply a case of turning up every month!!

We will try and have it as a regular event as long as work permits. Most of us are in the forces and it's not always easy to get out for a meet. Sam is based in Germany and was over here on course and to pick up his Panigale.
We met a few other guys on Dukes at West Bay who aren't on the DSC so I tried recruiting them. They said they would have a look so hopefully we will have a few more new members.

The good thing about having it in the calendar anyway is that others might start going along as well even if you can't make it!

This is how meetings start and what makes the Club :D

Sounds to me like you've just recruited yourself to a Regional Organiser role!! ;)

Haha cheers, I wouldn't mind doing that. I would just be worried about people getting annoyed if I wasn't able to organise anything for a while if I had to go away with work, but then again I'm sure people would understand.

This isn't my first forum anyway so I understand how things work. I have been with the MLR (Mitsubishi Lancer Register) since 2007. There have been some very good regional organisers on there but unfortunately there are also a lot of people on forums who are very quick to criticise when they aren't happy with something, but hey you can't please everyone.

We just need the bloomin weather to improve! From being down at Poole Quay, Weymouth and West Bay I know there are plenty of Ducati owners about who may not be on the DSC. Does the DSC have contact/club cards that we could hand out to people or leave on their bikes to try and get new members?

We've got a long list of tips about running a region, but the best thing to do is to set something up and have it happen regularly in a known place (as you have now) and then people know when they have to turn up. If some people don't make it, it's not a problem.
We have the Pub Night in Essex for exactly that - everyone comes to the pub on the third Monday of the month to the same pub each time. If some people can't make it, they know when to come for the next one. Simple!
Other stuff, like rideouts, then gets organised on a more ad-hoc basis as people start sharing their phone numbers or meeting at the weekends. I've made plenty of "friends" in Essex rather than just club members.
We do have calling cards and they have space for event & contact details on them too. I can get some sent over to you if you want - you also get a free club t-shirt for volunteering!
I'm off to WDW in the morning so let's talk more when I get back.
