I know that a 'bitza' type bike (or a stolen/rebuild of some kind) is often given a Q plate, but I'm told that an imported bike with an indeterminate year of registration will also be given a Q plate when brought to the UK. And if its year of original registration can't be proven with documentary evidence, the Q plate can't ever be changed. Now I'd usually steer clear of Q plated bikes, but if it's only been fitted because it's an import, should it really be enough to put me off buying? Anyone give any advice?

Cheers

The only issue i can think of is that most insurance companies either wont insure q plate bikes or the load the permium to a silly level. Also think of your resale valve.

The problem with Q plates is the problem you're having! They normally open up a can of worms!
I was once told Q stood for questions or questionable because that's what happens, loads of questions, what's it worth,if i buy it will i be able to sell it again, what's wrong with it,etc?
In my experiance(20 years in the motor trade)people avoid Q's because of all the problems, but if you are prepared for the insurance problems & you get the vehicle at a much reduded cost they can be ok!
Just be carefull what you buy & how much you pay!!
