Can anyone help me export MS Exchange mail?

I'm looking to backup some personal Exchange messages from my work Exchange system and transfer these to a personal PC and then transfer them later onto a new company laptop.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Can I just do a backup of .pst files? Is there a wizard to do this? I've looked at the Exchange help file, but this is about as useful as a Nun's T1ts!!!

Anyone help? Weeksy, JPM, RedSPS?

You can copy the messages from your Inbox (and/or Sent Items) to a Personal Folder, then copy the relevant .pst file to CD, floppy, etc. If you have an .ost file setup, you can just copy that instead.

Pretty much it, archive what messages you want to a pst, archive your contacts whatever, just drag and drop. Bang them on a CD and then copy them back to the new machine at home, assuming you use MS-Outlook, not Outlook Express.

Also if needed find your .PAB file (Personal address book) on your work PC and copy that also, you need to have outlook closed otherwise you'll get a sharing violation.

No point in moving the files off the Exchange server if your getting a new work lappy, as they'll still be on the server.

you could set up a rule in outlook to forward the mails your interested in to your home email account.

Depends on how secure the mail system is, not allowed here, autoforwarding is turned off at the IMC level, plus that would be a client only rule, I doubt Tim has an entry in his companies GAL with his home email address listed, thus only possible while he has an outlook session running (client only rule).

Basically go to tools, services, add, select personal address book, you can change the path at that point, keep clicking OK, eventually you'll get a box saying that you need to quit outlook for the changes to take affect, voila!

I had to do something similar a few months back - are you by any chance changing jobs Tim??!!

In Outlook, go to "tools","services", highlight one of the personal folders that you have and then click "properties". This will give you the location of where your pst files are stored.

Open an explorer window and navigate to the pst file location and then copy the relevant files to your CD-Rom or portable hard-drive.

To install onto your new machine, just reverse the procedure (kind of). As JP says, you won't be able to install if you are using Outlook Express at home.

Don't know about .pad files I'm afraid...
