Since we purchased a new pc for home our dial up service has slowed down to clockwork levels(over a period of time). We are thinking of getting broadband access but do not know which provider to use, we do not need superfast access but reliabilaty is important. Any suggestions apart from go forth and procreate would be helpfull.

I've had NTL's package for about a year and half.
Great no problems. Was told to avoid AOL cause i would regret it.

Echoing Doogalman....
Avoid AOL at ALL costs, we had loads of trouble with them. Been on NTL Broadband for a few months and it is HEAPS better !
On eclipse at the mo as it's only a one month contract. Pay £20/month for 512kb service, but they've just launched a cheaper, faster (2Mb/£14.99) service this month, which could suit fine as long as you're not downloading loads of movies.
Best independent comparison site I know:

Go to 'Compare Service Providors' and check a few boxes.

I'm on virgin.net just changed my package to 512kpbs with a 3 gig download limit £17.99 was on unlimited downloads at £24.99 but as i don't download much it was a bit of a waste of money and there is no contract on virgin

What ever route you go down it is vitally important to get a good firewall in place, this could be one reason that your machine is slowing down, even better is the get a router with built in firewall including statefull packet inspection.

I know a few of us on here are with Plusnet (Desmondo, Totto?).
I have had no real problems so far.
