I believe the single injector mod can be the way to go on the 996 but I would only do this if had a specific chip for the job. FIM do a single injector chip, the only downside is £100ish cost.

I've read that before as well, regarding doin that mod,the ultimap fim chip is Australian and a piggyback chip, that goes on top of ure existing one,i had one on my 916 & did back to back dyno tests,it was 2/3 bhp down on a JHP one for the same bike !!!
couldn't really feel any differance, when riding, either,my personal feeling is they arn't worth the money !
Today, the real gains & benefits are with a power commander, which really do work, theres one on here for sale,& it's cheap !
thing is to try it,it won't blow up,only if the fuelings wayout !!however 20 bhp is a bit optomistic me thinks !!

You really need to do more than just change the chip to get more power.

No need for a PC3 on these bikes, a JHP chip at £30 is a heck of a lot cheaper but the bike still needs careful setting up. Its not just a case of plugging the new chip in and off you go.

The single injector mod to some of the 996 models is well known.

If you get the FIM ultimap chip to replace the stock one, it can be remapped to suit your exhausts, cams, etc. needs to be done on a dyno tho. My 916 went from stock 97bhp at the wheel to 107 with 50mm termis and a remap. Nicer mid range drive too. :burn:

Thats interesting Webcore, i thought the 916 should be around 107 at the wheel anyhow before any mods. Of course it depends on the dyno and which standard they use.

Hello Rockhopper - Steve at Moto Rapido did the Dyno runs and mapping for me - I don't know all the ins and outs of the type of Dyno, but he told me it was up among the best he'd got out of a bog standard 916 motor.
From looking at Dyno charts on sites like Doug Lofgrens and Moto One, it seems to be about right.
I think you're right tho' - didn't Ducati claim about 107 or 108 for the 916? - although if this was at the crank then taking off about 10% for Transmission losses comes to about 97 at the wheel with a standard exhaust..................

Just checked the Haynes - You're right - 109@9000 for the 916 and 112@8500 for the 996 - maybe this is the crank figure or maybe I've just got a slow Bip :( :sniff:

You can get variations of quite a bit between dynos and like i said, DIN and SAE and such like vary as well, really the best use for a dyno is to compare before and after curves so you can see if you have made any improvement. The 109 at 9000 rpm is interesting, means i dont need to rev it much higher than that on trackdays!!

Just looked at my dyno chart - it reaches max hp at about 9000 then it flattens and stays constant to 10000 and rolls off fairly gently after that, still showing about 100hp at 10700rpm where the curve stops. Moto Rapido have said to me that it's not really worth revving past 10k but I still hit the limiter sometimes when being over enthusiastic
Apologies to Tony H for hijacking his thread a bit..........

My 996 engine has the FIM chip, single injector operation and dyno set up. 116 at the rear tyre and pulls right off the stop.

Top job.

The single injector modification is used to correct a fueling problem at small throttle openings specific to 1998-2000 996 Bipostos only. For more information go here:

Ducat workshop manual says 112hp for a standard 996 at the crank. So I'd take a wild guess that the standard 109horses for a 916 is at the crank too. Clever me!:sing: I worked that out all by myself.......
So 107 at the wheel's gotta be pretty good for just open pipes, squish set and a fuel remap. Makes the Ultimap seem like a good idea, especially as it is set for the engine it is working for and can be changed to suit any engine mods that you make.
Hope this helps a bit Tony
