well i just got back from my mates who has made me some (carbon) airbox side covers!

i have a full carbon Air box but it keeps cracking .

so i asked my mate if he could make me some covers for my standard box, as it is just for looks and not performance!

this is what he has made and they are perfect !!!!!!!

would anyone else be interested on here ?

if there is enough interest i can get him to make some more.

please let me know what you think of them.....
regards mav;)
pic 1 is standard airbox B4.

definitely interested Mav... any thoughts as to costs? how quickly could he turn another pair around as I'm looking for a black airbox for my black track day kit (I know, I know, so last year) and this might be a cheaper option????

madmav

and the benifits!!!
easy to fit
easy to remove when you sell the bike

wont mark paintwork!

looks just like a carbon airbox as you cant see no red or yellow when tank is back on !

it was just an idea;)

jason just thought i would se if there was any interest first!

the next batch will be even better as these are the proto types

and he says the next ones will be even better as he will make a mold!

cost all depends the more the cheaper to a degree!

Mav,

I think they look very good, how do you fix them on? I would certainly be interested as you say you take them off when you flog the bike.

steve i'm gonna use a line of semi bond silicone. or contact adhesive something that wont etch into the paint!

i'll try it on an old air box first and let you know the results !

at worst maybe double sided tape :)

I'm interested Mav, I kind of need to know the price before Thursday afternoon because I might just get another airbox I have painted black.

Hows that then?:rolleye:

mmmhhh...how does that work then Andy...is it like having standard Ohlins forks (as fitted to a 999R), which at the end of the day are a cheap version of the R&T type...which are a cheap version of the BSB, which are a cheap version of WSB or GP spec equipment?

Is it like having track fairings covered in stickers for that WSB look, when its nothing more than a cheap copy?

No crime in trying to make your pride and joy look good...my SP has a full carbon box...but if it didn't, I would consider the covers, I think they look quite neat.

24-Jan-2005, 13:04
On thaqt theory why have we even bothered to have Ducatis?

A 999 is a cheap 999s is a cheap 999r is a cheap bsb spec is a cheap wsb spec..............

I think a carbon air box is the biz, a pair od imitation covers are........imitation covers. What purpose do they serve?
At least my crappy 999r std ohlins are a bit lower down the scale.......and any way i agree, so lets have 25mm inserts upgrade fitted.......

I think they are quite a good idea. but price as with everything is the key.
I already have a full carbon air box but would still consider them, as a way of making it up to the moor modern quick release side panel model

chris99
24-Jan-2005, 13:30
I think for us on a budget they offer a chance to have a high spec look for a fraction (hopefully) of the price. If they turn out to only be a bit less then the cost of a full airbox then there is no point is there.

Steve

Agreed

For the same reason we have white number boards on the front or back.........

No purpose, but to look nice.

Just my 2-pence worth

ok boys;)

Well the reasone behind these for me anyway is this!

Firstly . i do have a carbon Airbox and in truth it Gains me Jack ****!

I have weighed both carbon and standard boxes and there is not a nats cock in it:D

when a bike /car/lorry is made the manufacturer spends millions on Reasearch and development, and to this end normaly comes out with somthing that is "A" durable,"B" cost efective and so on:D

so we then find the need to throw away this wealth of knowledge and replace it with what is no more in (ROAD) terms than a piece of cosmetic junk:D

wich usualy cost's in this case (CARBON AIRBOX) £350.00 ish

so my idea was simply to make for (myself) and trading of the back of all the reasearch and developmentFrom ducati!!!

a substitute , cosmetic part that will still give you the look of a full carbon air box(And beleive me it does) for a fraction of the price of a full carbon airbox!;)

But i can tell you for a fact if ducati came up with the idea then most of you would be floking to the shop to buy them!!!!!:lol:

just my opinion:smug:

ps i'm on a budget and i know a lot of the guys on here are to!!

There are companys that sell these already but imo they are too expensive for what they are. I really hope your mate doesnt get too greedy Mav. He will sell tons of cheap ones or only a few expensive ones

deej
30-Jan-2005, 16:22
any news on the price yet, im definetly in if the price is right

saves 300 notes ona a airbox and also the hassle of painting the panel red, at leats with these i can transfer to my 916 eventually

Its all bling unless your racin in a superbike team, all the carbon they throw away every other week. If it looks the part when its on and it saves you monney buy it spend the rest on trackdays
(my full ones not falling to bits though) ?

I could also be interested in a set, although I have a full carbon airbox on one bike but I doubt if I really need the extra stiffness it adds to the frame
a, because the bike only makes roughly 105bhp
b, because I don't twist the throttle as quickly as Foggy did

I'll have them on the spare airbox tomorrow night for a look :D
