I went for an interview a few weeks ago and the guy interviewing me asked me what my hobbies were. I told him that I was a biker to which he replied that "you don't look like a biker", to which I was unsure of what to say without being rude. I thought is it because I don't have tatoos, leather jacket with no sleeves, long hair and a goatee beard then I can't possibly be a biker?

So what is a biker meant to look like when they're not riding their bikes?:puzzled:

Webby, you have described a biker to perfection, now a ducati rider is a totally different look altogether, modest, articulate, focused, passionate, generous, well groomed.:lol::lol:

i think the publics perception of a typical biker is what webby has described above, but in reality most bikers cannot wear their biking gear for work etc..wearing a full set of race leathers in the office or factory would look a bit silly, but then some would say that real bikers have only a bike for transport, work as a bike mechanic and wear their biking gear 24/7. in my opinion anyone who has a bike, is a biker, simple as that.

This is what bikers look like at our house............. bikes owned: Suzuki 50, Kawasaki 500, Ducati 600, Ducati 900, Triumph TT600, Ducati ST2 and now a Buell XB12R.........

yeah, well said, or you could turn up to an interview on your bike in your leathers, that would show him.. I had to do that once, when my car battery wouldn't work, I rang them first to see if it would be ok... but if that's your only mode of transport, I guess that would have to do!

'Biker' for quite a lot of non biking people gives the impression of "tattoos, leather jacket with no sleeves, long hair and a goatee beard" as you say.

More seem to understand if you say you:
"have a passion for motorbikes, in particular - the Ducati"

or

you are "a motorcyclist" (conjures up picture of Webby in Sam browne belt etc:lol: )

The ' I spend a part of my leisure time enjoying riding my motorbike' is prob the best one to use, as you are not giving the impression you are the proverbial 'biker' or a power ranger.

Anyway, how's the interviews going:puzzled:Mr 'Biker'?

"Biker"

Well i think the word biker came about late 70's

As i rember before that there were!!

MODS and Skin heads These were the scooter boys of the Day!

Greaser's! These were your lewis leather jacket boys TT200 invader/super 6 boys Etc etc

Hells angels ! these were your leather jacket covered with Denim sleveless jackets goaty beard etc etc

and then i think

"BIKERS" were a derivertive of all those who came together after the 60's 70s:D

for me i remember the days when we had the left arm up to aknowledge another biker traveling the other way!!

a bit like the low V's you see on the continent...

not so much seen here anymore :(

sign of the times me thinks;)

Just goes to show how feefing ignorant some people are with pre conceived misconceptions.

Over the years we have had despatch riders who have been opera singers, actors, chefs, maths teachers, plus the odd heir to a few million who was a bit bored whilst waiting for the dosh, oh but best not forget the armed robber who had a few sawn off shotguns for keeping the pigeons at bay!!!!!!

Big mistake to stereotype bikers.

Before "Rockers" , they were known as "Ton up boys". Worked with several old school blokes, they had some great tales to tell.
