Hi guys, with the bike on its way, I am looking into getting a comms unit for the bike. The trouble is, where will it fit. Has anyone tried to install one of these, any guidance will be much appreciatied.

No idea mate, there's not a lot of places to hide stuff.I heard that some alarm boxes have to be mounted inside the fairing!(velcro?)
Certainly no room under the seat.

**** that's a point, where is the alarm going to go aswell.
the box itself isn't that much, just over 100 pounds. but after you have got Satnav, speedcamera detector, phone, ipod and a decent radio they are in the high hundreds. I am simply going for the unit and a radio and phone.

The gixxer owners put it where their tool kit is. they aren't huge. Where is the toolkit on the 749?

The velco is so strong the you tend to ripe the bloody tool kit off the velco if your not careful. The glue that holds the velco to the tool bag isn't really up to the job.

Out for a ride the other day with a mate on a Honda Hornet 600 who didn't have any allen keys with him. He was well impressed with the Ducati's toolkit as he didn't think the Duc would have one!!

I have fitted my Starcom easy on other bikes but the 749s I now have, not even going to try. I am keeping it "off the bike!". Its all in a rucksac at the mo powered off the pp3 battery inside the unit.

I will look for a tank bag soon and pop it in there

whats the point of the toolkit if you need an allen key to get the fairing off? and the allen key is in the toolkit.

Ducati thought about this and cleverly supply an allen key under the pillion seat of the Bip.The mono's have dzus fasteners you can undo and then slide your arm in to grab the tool kit.:)

I must admit I didnt find the allen key under the seat until I'd nearly removed the skin from my arm trying to squeeze it down the fairing to pull the toolkit off the super stong velcro.
I suppose its mentioned in the manual somewhere, will get round to reading it one day. :)
I still struggle now though since I've converted the bip to a mono and aint go the d-zeus fasteners

tricky.
