View Full Version : Brands GP 4th July - £170!!!
Henners
02-Feb-2005, 23:54
Bumped into Gary and Catherine from Apex Trackdays earlier and they're doing the GP circuit for £199 - but read on. Also throw in lunch (and tuition if required). They offering 4 groups of 20 minutes which is most probably right on a circuit this long however you should still get a good few sessions in as its one of the longest days of the year.
They also have a good few dates elsewhere which are just prior to Desmo Due races - good opportunity to practice :eureka:
Gary and Catherine have been members of the DSC for some time and offer paid up club members the following discounts:
Book yourself on 5 of their trackdays and get the 6th free.
Book a group of 6 onto a trackday and get the 7th place free - at Brands GP that brings the price down to £170 each.
I'm going, who else is going to be there? :D
[b]Please remember this is not an official DSC track day and you will need to book direct with Apex. Because they are giving us this opportunity at 'cost' price they have to restrict the numbers to no more than 49 full DSC members at that price.[b]

Isn't that a bit pricey for a trackday. 2 weeks in Magaloof wouldn't set you back as much as that. Clearly, no one wants to spend 2 weeks in Magaloof but, all that same, I'd be waiting for bargains and jumping in last minute to book a cheap deal... cos frankly I don't thin it's gonna be oversubscribed! :o
I's cheap for Brands GP - they're around £250'ish in the full swing of summer.
I'd love to do it ... but don't think I can.
Brands GP last year was £265 ......

I'll check the calendar - I think that July is pretty free for trackdays / DD stuff - so might be up for it, might just stick to the Indy though and give the Monnie a tonking!!!

I'm sorry but Brands is HUGE. And frankly what is the advantage of spending all that money!!!!:puzzled:
You could book 2 days at Cadwell for the same dosh.
Call me old fashioned but I've ridden Brands GP and I really don't think it provides that fun and frolics of Cadwell.
Not unless it can be bought at a bargain price of, say £149.95.:bouncy:

Best £170 you can spend with your clothes on
GP is a must do in the year
(wats that smell dinggle dell) Two from Essex please
No petrol bill there and back and no overnight stay as with cadwell cheap cheap cheap for an Essex boy
work out the same as I see it :frog:

Brands GP is a great circuit - pricey I agree, but its worth doing if you've not done it before and getting a sub-£200 price tag is worth taking if you've not sampled it.
Brands GP is a very fast and flowing circuit some mad 110mph + bends and well worth going if you can stump up the wonger. Similar I suppose to Donny and Oulton.
Cadwell is a very different track, great all the same, but suits a smaller, quicker turning bike - like a Monster!!!!!;);)

I have just spoken to Apex.
They WILL NOT accept 7 bookings at £170 each ... but WILL accept 6 at £199 then credit a free space.
Now that means we either
A: Find 6 of us to book at £199 then the 7th person has to reimburse each of the 6 with £28.35.
B: I will put 6 places on my credit card and dispense them to the first 6 people to pay me £170.
Option B is based on getting funds and commitment now though as i don't want this money hanging around on my credit card.
Anyone that wants my address or bank details and wants me to do this please say so now ......

Well there are 4 Cadwell dates to choose from or Rockingham - have a look at the dates on the site. We couldn't get Donington, the noise restriction was too low. But maybe next year, eh. we'll be looking at more different tracks. And so many people are jumping at the GP, come to Cadwell! I love it.

Just wanted to post a few thoughts I had today about why I possibly didn't get the best buzz from Brands GP.
1. I had new tyres on so was cautious to start.
2. I hadn't so much as glanced at a track guide so I had no idea what it would be like.
3. I hadn't started the day with the usual huge adrenalin rush, or even much sense of anticipation. It was all a bit of an afterthought to join in because I actually went along to spectate.
4. I have a goldfish mentality. If it takes more than a couple of minutes to get round a track, it takes me a good few sessions to get used to it.
5. I had a bloke from CSS following me for the first session. He then proceeded to destroy what confidence I had that day by telling me there were at least 6 things I was doing wrong. And the b@stard would only tell me one of them. I still don't know what the other 5 are and it's bugged me ever since.
So it's possible that these factors have influenced my opinion of the track overall. That doesn't mean I want to book again. Not until I know Cadwell, Donny, Silverstone and a few others that people have suggested, like the back of my hand, but one day, maybe. ;)
And I'm up for trying the Indy track in October, as it is handy to go somewhere close. That should be fun. :bouncy:

Ruth, as you know I am a fan of CSS, but anyone who breaks someones confidence is an arse, I don't care who they are or what school they work at. Hope you have a better time at Brands next time you decide to visit.

Ruth,
years ago I did a track day with mcn at brands and the css instructors were doing 3 laps with you for 25.00 and at the end giving you advice. My instructor that day who shall remain nameless said to me ' dont you think you would go quicker if you look where your going' that was all he said.
It was not untill I did level 2 that I realised I was not looking through the bend properly and at that point his apparently flippant remark made sense.
I think the instructors sometimes make comments out of a school enviroment that without andys classroom sesions apear to be flippant or confusing. the other point is that at the css they only work on one point at a time, each session is devoted to one skill, again in the school enviroment this would have been explained by andy!
on a brighter note if you were only doing 6 things wrong you are a lot better than most riders who have to be shown every seperate skill, in my case some of them repeatedly!!

Hi Guys
Just a quick note that we have already had one group of seven DSC members book, we have agreed that we will allow up to 49 places to the DSC with this offer........that means up to 6 more groups can book.
We are asking that one person takes charge of the organisation for the 6 group members and collects all the money etc, and then we debit one credit card with the amount equivalent to 6 riders and allocate 7 places. We do ask that you include name, address, tel, e-mail address, ability group and an idea of the type of bike you will be using.
Lunch is included, and since its American Independance Day a USA stylee BBQ will be organised.
You should also be aware that we have booked SUNSHINE for bradders:D

Apex are running 4 groups on this trackday
I have called to check how this works. The groups will be Novice, Inters, Fast and ACU.
The sessions will start at 9:00. Given 1 hour for lunch that should work out at 5 sessions for the day
I think still think that this is good value for Brands GP in the summer.
having 4 groups in my view is a good idea , less chance of riders ending up in a group that's either to intimerdating or to slow.
Plus 5 sessions on the G.P circuit........pro-plus/ 1 gallon of red bull later.
There are a couple of reasons that we chose to run four groups
1) to keep down the costs to a sensible level, lots of people want to try the GP but cannot afford £280+ for a trackday
2) The GP circuit is very demanding, previous experience is that most people go home knackered at 3pm. By having 4 groups it gives a little more time for rest and recuperation which means: better concentration, improved learning capacity, safer riding and therefore more enjoyment.
3) Did I say 3? …. Finally running four groups at below capacity numbers means we are able to move people around should they find they are in a group not suited to their skill/speed ability.
The groups will be Novice, Intermediate, Fast and ACU (racing member). Just a note that it doesn’t mean that if you have an ACU licence you are forced into the 4th group, however we will try to ensure that only ACU licence holders or racing experienced riders go into group 4. I say this because some DSC members who are starting racing this season have elected to join the intermediate group, but they will be able to move groups if desired.
One further note is that all our instructors have current racing experience and are paid to teach, not given freebee trackdays. Guys like Garry Dickinson (www.garrydickinsonracing.iofm.net) will be on hand to help pass on his knowledge, and I’ll be there of course…

Which group are the majority of us DSC lot booked into?
I'd like to join the majority in a group, but if we're all over the place, then I'll be eliteist and go in the ACU!!!!;)

I'm somewhat questioning my sanity but I've nominated for the ACU group.
I may move though, if others are going somewhere else.

Yeh you're right - if the big Aussie bloke can risk it in ACU, I'd better go and help him!! - Not that I'm bowing to peer pressure or anything!!! ;)

I think if I was riding both bikes at once, I'd still get lapped!!!
I'll probably take the Monster and ZX - this was really the reason why I delayed my decision on taking part as I do want to use both bikes and the fewer sessions meant that I probably wouldn't get the best out of either???
I'll see how it goes nearer the time, if I can get to Brands Indy on the Monnie before we race there, then I'll probably just take the ZX as an escape from all this DD milarkey.
But if I haven't had a chance to "Monnie the Indy" then I'll mainly use the 620 and practice taking Paddock Hill at stupid speeds with no care for life nor limb!!!!;)
Tim:ninja:
I may be extracting the urine to be doing more than one TD at Brands while I'm racing this year as well!!
Shhhh, she might here you and remember the Tag catalog on the coffee table which she has appeared to have forgotten about.
Mind you, I've been getting all sorts of e-mails from paypal, it appears she has discovered e-bay!!!
As a famous man once said "Oh dear oh dear oh dear"
Jon,
I'm sure another 6 will appear to accompany you .... might be worth a new thread as this ones got difficult to follow ...
Also if you fancy Sunday night B&B in exchange for a space in the van to Brands then that'd be good ....
Get ****tler over as well and go for a ruby .....
Ok Dibbs, sound advice.;)
