My race budget is based on the following, been doing it for 14 years so have a good idea of my costs
Entry and Test/Track day
Race fuel
Van Fuel
Food etc
One Tyre
Zero Crash Damage
Oil degradation
Oil filter degradation
Belts degradation

£540

£540 X 8 rounds = £4320 for Season with Friday test/track day
Reduced by about £1200 if not doing test/trackday on the Friday as you also save on tyres, fuel and food

I find I can sell my used ones on easier if they still look in good useable condition, putting the money towards new ones
Budget for buying 4 sets at £540 and then a couple of extra rears from the proceeds of used tyre sales

how much do used tyres fetch?
I used to budget circa £4000 for a season. Generally I would miss one race due to work commitments / etc.
Tyres will go for whatever some will pay for them, I cant remember what the last one went for but would not surprise me to get around £30 / £40 for a rear.
Also dont forget to add in track days / servicing.
Mark
PS there is nothing wrong in using two sets a season if you are not running at the front

Chris clarke who runs at the front has had same tires on since beginning of the season!!!!
I managed 3rd in the championship in 2010 on 2 sets of tyres. You can run at the front the the championship on a budget.... But it's hard work. ;)

12 sets last year Dean, and I know the young Mr Challis had at least the same. :o
Did it make a difference I don't know, maybe it was just in my head  but I wanted to gain on or match the next guy ( Andy and Matt) in anyway I could.

Well I'm a little off the front and like I say..new rear every round and a front every second (by the Sunday races) as I'd often worn thru the wear indcators on the edge and the rear particulary was stepped

recon you need to fit knobblys arfter donny
Haven't tried the Dunlops so couldn't say but there were plenty of people behind me on new pirelli rubber while mine where on there 4th meeting. Not through choice I may add, I would have loved a new set every race but I couldn't justify the cost. The old tyres did get a bit challenging on the 4th outing.... Just added to the fun.
Easier to make B tyres last longer than A tho I imagine due to the power of the A's...... But again, I've never ridden a class A bike so I can't really say.
