My new rear wheel does not fit!

Hi guys,

I need your help in finding someone who can help me get and assemble the necessary parts to fit a 999 rear wheel onto a 998 prototype dual swing arm.

Situation: My 998 prototype has a rear dual swing arm, so I got an additional 999 rear wheel (since the 998 single arm wheel would not work) to fit an extra set of wets (my additional front wheel fits nicely).

Complication: My new 999 rear wheel collar is larger than my other OZ rear wheel. Which means I would probably need a different size collar/sleeve, 2 different size bairings and a 5-pin sprocket holder and a rear sprocket.

Questions: I live in the London area. Who would be able to help me get the necessary parts to fit the new wheel? Is there anything else I am missing from the above description?

I think i would save your genuine swingarm etc, and fit either a 999 or a 998 swing arm etc

I would go for the 998 single sided option as there are more available!

I want to be able to swap between 2 sets of wheels (one with Supercorsa tyres, and the other with full wets) when I go to track days.

I thought about that DCR, but wouldn't I have the same 'reverse problem? I.e. not being able to fit my prototype OZ wheels, which I now mount, onto the standard 998 or 999 arm. Am I missing something?

Plus a 999 or standard 998 etc swingarm might not fit with his pipes, as there would surely be some serious "plumbing" going on there...

I know you've spoken to Johnny Hackett as he mentioned your bike last time I was there, and he remembers it at the factory, so he would be another person to contact if you can't get it sorted.

Sounds like you need to remove your existing OZ wheel/sprocket/cush drive etc and take the 999 components to a machine shop and get them to machine the 999 components to fit the OZ stuff.

OR

Modify the 999 wheel to fit the OZ cush drive and get new spacers made.

I would contact Sigma Sport (Tunbridge Wells area) and see if they can assist as they are experts in this type of stuff.

Not a 100% sure,but I think you need the 5spoke wheel out of the late SS range,try before you buy thou.

Gotta be easier just to swap between Supercorsas and wets when on trackdays - if you were racing it might be more of an issue?

It'll be a bit of hassle, but a lot less grief than having to sort the wheels out I reckon.

I thought about just swapping tires, but I will also ride my bike on the road (sometimes) and did not want to risk damaging the OZ wheels. Plus, I have already bought the other pair of wheels...

My best bet will be JHP or Sigma, then.

Still think you're better off just swapping the tyres, its probably worth getting some quotes from Sigma or JHP, but be prepared for a big bill!!

You should be fine with the OZs on the road, with a bike as special as that, I reckon you should think twice about even taking her out in the rain!!!;)
