Dear readers....
My love affair with Ebay is failing all the more rapidly these days.
Story time.
My bike came with nice (loud) carbon high level cans - to which I also added to the collection a std pair of SL cans, for MOT time.
Wifey, has recently hinted that this year she would like to go out on the Duke from time to time so, I had a hunt around and found some std low level hangers for a 900SS on the dreaded Ebay.
All went well, I won the auction and some good condition, well packaged rear footrests / plates recently arrived.
I'm actually a bit miffed because the guy quoted £10 P&P, which I questioned but didnt get a proper response to.....and when the packet arrived - you guessed - the postal cost was only £4.31
£5.69 - seems very steep for a bag, some bubble wrap and his time to package it all.
Is it just me??? I wouldnt dream of doing something like this...even if it was a mistake I'd either send the guy a refund of somesort or at least put some postage stamps in as a consolation !!!
Anyways...low level pipes - which ones to look for a 93 900SS ??? There are some quite nice Lasers on (dammit) Ebay....weight saving will not be too much of an issue since the missus will be on the back :lol::lol: (I'm dead for saying that I know !!!!)
Suggestions please (apart from leaving the country)
Cheers - Frank
Have you seen the prices at Staples?!?! I am getting hammered for packing materials.

yes - but this guy is an individual not 'apparently' a trader.
And his response:
"got to cover my costs ,thanks"
erm yes - thanks for exactly nothing.
Neutral Ebay feedback coming on I feel.
Ah the old "postage and package" con.A great way to get a bit more money for the item you are selling.
I always check the P&P amount before I bid, some folks are just taking the p!ss.
SS cans,
I have tried Micron,Lazer and Boss on the various SS's we have owned.
The Microns were very over rated, the fit was poor and the baffles came loose after a while. We bought them cheap at the TT,so could have been seconds.
We next tried some Lazers, cheap to buy,and that is reflected in the quality. The carbon "laquer" delaminated and a crack appeared on one of the cans.
The Boss cans were a little dearer, but the fit and finish was first class.A bit rare to find these days tho.:(
We bought ours from the then main importer,Straightline Racing in Kings Lynn.
Ive just fitted some Leo Vince cans to my wifes Monster, they were cheap in Busters sale. They fit well and quality is excellent, well recommended.
Also consider Arrow and SilMotor, not cheap, but if you want the best.......:)

A mate with a TRX850 has BOSS cans fitted. His ones are cack.... Possibly friday afternoon jobs but it'd certainly put me off?
I recently picked up a set of Laser hi-level ally cans from eBay. Not superb quality but not too far off standard and the best bit was the fact they cost around £100 for NOS!
As for your dilemma Frank how 'bout buying a set of standard low level cans from fleabay or off here and using them on the odd occasion the missus wants a ride (on the bike before we get smutty...). Take about 10 minutes to swap them over and do double duty as legal for the MOT. Then you can flog your valuable OEM SL cans for around £150 and make a tidy profit?

Darren - I like your thinking !!!!
The SL cans weigh A LOT MORE than the carbon cans that the bike came with.
So this seems like an excellent plan to me.

Mine (ie) has Remus cans on and I can't fault them, good quality and lasting well, sound good, not too offensive, and a proper mounting lug rather than the strap and bolt most use. Remus make the DP cans too, so I'd expect similar quality from them.

Good advice guys however - my nice (loud) Carbon cans look quite good but are not stamped so, any others would need to be road legal for MOT time (what am I saying - LOL).
Something will turn up ;)

As others have said Frank - check the price of P&P before you buy as it's usually there in the auction details. As the guy says, he has to spend time getting to/from the post office and if that means a long bus journey or 15 miles there and back in petrol then it's going to cost, not just for brown paper and bits of string!

If you want to be sensible Frank ive got a new set of genuine ssie silencers in the gargage that I think might fit..?Alternativley ive got some DP titanium and carbon monnie silencers which im sure are the same with the exception of the hangers which you could probably modify..?
Just an idea..!
Nat
I use Bos cans -very loud (:sing:) but good quality and great fit. I also have some road legal carbon cans bought from Flea-bay - advertised as original Ducati (my arse). These are a bloody awful fit, and use spring fittings - they wobble and foul the swing arm.
If you can still get Bos cans - I'd recommend them.

Cheers Nat - I'm told the silencers are 40mm internal dia.
Sadly the (cheapish) Laser cans I was watching on FleaBay are not stamped at all which would not be of any use to me.
There are some Termi's on there but I think the issue might be the same as above.
Having THREE sets of pipes for one bike seems a bit silly - some my Hi-level carbons and a set of low level legal pipes would seem sensible.

Hi Frank,
I've been done by fleEbay too as I bought a spare cd player for my disco, I won a very nice Sony unit for only 12quid and asked the seller how much p&p would be before bidding, he said £7 max. I won the auction (nobody buys stereo stuff!!) and the total price to buy was with £9.19 p&p. I questioned the guy and he said thats what it cost him and when it came it was rattling around in a box inisde a carrier bag, the chassis was twisted and the display cracked. I let rip into the guy, but it did work & twisted back ok, so I let it lie after he sweated abit, I still havent given feedback.
Anyway, as for cans, my '98 has standard cans for mot and scorpion carbons for race (except Donington!!!!), both low level and I've never caught them even with very high rear-sets & RR tyres to the edge!
Roll on summer,
Andy
