The day has finally arrived, the baby R is done.
Looking resplenant and totally sparkling the baby R is at last finished and ready for the trip home to daddy.
With the race kit now fully sorted and with 138 willing horses showing both on Ducati Corse and Johns dyno i await some dry roads to see just how good its going to be to ride.
One things for sure it is very load ,with Mr Vinci's 2005 spec tailbox (67mm) it managed to set of a car alarm on the other side of the dual carrigeway when the throttle was blipped whilst on the forcourt of JHP.
I would like to say i'm going to miss Ducati's 1000ds but somehow i dont think i will!
Feel free to form an ordally queue to test ride the baby R(as usual Monty's at the front with 4D on his shoulder).

But thats the outlets on the 2005 spec tailbox and it is VERY loud ,John assures me its 104.9 decibels -honestly officer .
Not sure what will happen on the Bikecraft day ,i think i'll have to stick a couple of socks in it to quient it down (Guicci's of course!!!)

Saw the bike last week at Johns, looked sweet, I have been toying with the Leo Vinci system also, but I don't think it'll get past the noise test for track days, so holding back for now.

Be interesting if John could make some baffles to reduce the noise, which could be removed easily ;)

Rick was polishing your bike like a trooper last week though :D

Just got back from the first ride of the baby R,JEEEESUSSSSS its quick !
I must say i was just a little bit worried that the kit was going to spoil the bike espessially after John had told me that he had to set the tickover at 1800 rpm to get it to tick over,so i set out with a little trepidation this morning with plenty of salt down and a brand new Diablo Corsa on the rear ( complements of Ducati) i headed for Riverside to get a new lead for my Optimate, after a couple of miles reaquainting myself with the baby R i started to pick up the pace.
After about 4 roundabouts i diagnosed what i thought was clutchslip at about 7000 rpm how wrong i was at the next roundabout i was feeling a little braver and applied the power a little earlier (before the bike was upright) and hey what do you know the clutchslip was the rear wheel spinning up!
I got home an hour later with the biggest smile evar, trust me do whatever you have to -sell the kids, wife -house -car or rob a bank but make sure you get a Baby R with a race kit fitted ,it really is that good.
There is no rush of power just a steady thrust that really builds untill 9000 rpm when something grabs hold of you and catapults you at the horizon with such forocity that you have to wait for your eyeballs to catch up with you!
And you wont believe the buzz of reving it to 13000 ,just awesome.
At long last ie found a rider aid to make me grip the tank when accelerating, its called a racekit!
I know what a lucky B i am but if anybody seriously would like a go just let me know.
A very happy Butch

What is your service interval now - and what is involved with the service ?

butch890
07-Mar-2005, 12:31
Service intervals are now cambelt change at 2000 miles full heads off service every 4000 miles.
Thats not as bad as it looks as i have cambelts changed on both the 890 and baby R at 3000 miles normally.
I also change the oil and filter every 1000 miles on both bikes.

As well as race kit did you down gear as well ?

I also have a 749R which I will be termi-ing soon and am , short of the race kit , looking to maximise drive.

If you've not seen it already there is a nice piece on the stcok 749R power characteristics on the Moto One website.

They also report wheelspin on the Dyno !!

Butch......you're a lucky man!!

Are you seriously gonna let other people ride it?

Lily
07-Mar-2005, 17:38
i would love to haev a ride.. but i wont... because...

1. I am a girl and i doubt anyone would let me on their bike
2. if i do get on it i will want one and i cant afford it
3. i might just ride off into the sunset on it.

looks a great bike, was nosing round it and sticking my mitts on it :)

How many hp did you had before you installed the race kit?
And the race kit consists on what?

Butch,

What rearsets are you using, mine won't clear the new 57mm pipe so I will have to put the standard pegs back on for now.

Answers as follows,
Lily,i wouldnt have polished it if i'd known you 'd been fondeling it!
ES rear sets are Moto Corse units with a 18mm spacer fitted behind clutch side one.
I had already dropped down one tooth on the front sprocket which certainly improves drive but i think i will put the standard one back on now as i'm getting fed up with the front wheel being two foot off the ground all the time.
The kit comprises two heads ,new cams ,intakes, airfilter,ECU and a full 57mm termi system (sold to Ferrari Pete as i already had the Leo vinci) bike showed 118 bhp before the kit was fitted.
And yes i dont mind anybody trying it (just ask Montyabout the 890)
