View Full Version : My season almost over.. " sob "
Got a major engine issue.....got to find a new bottom end aka new engine or season is over....cant really afford it but cant afford not too...??
Major F****D off today........and will be visiting the guy i bought bike from.
I've found the problem. Unfortunately, it's not pretty.
At some point it's been repaired for a similar problem................by welding the fookin' flywheel to the crank!!!!!!!!
The weld has failed and took the keyway out for the alternator.
Not what you wanted to hear, I know, but there's no real solution other than to try and get another bottom end.

Bad luck mate - that's a real ****er when someone stitches you up like that.
What are the chances of getting replacement parts for the bits that have failed, or has it taken out so much you need a new engine?
Good luck - I'm sure there's something out there.

Phil, Alan says he will check out the other engine in the garge tonight & see if he can salvage anything from it.
He says dont hold your breath (its been sitting there for 2 years in a box) but its worth a check.

tough break fella - you've got a U2U
Tim
Phil, I know it's a bit basic but is there enough good metal left to re-weld the flywheel to the crank so at least you can get something out of the engine, or has the weld failure trashed the lot?
I know an aircraft standard welder who could probably do the job as a freebie if I asked.

Aargh noo!:flame:
Ive said it before, and I'll say it again, there are some *****ters out there.
Gutted for you, hope you get sorted soon.
Well , what a complete bummer the worst possible news after preping the bike up and making it look good with decals, fairings, tyres, exhaust etc then "testing out at Donny Fil get this, but just like the big man Arnie says " Ill be back"
Im sure we/he will be on the grid if we get Plan b working Helps with the typical DSC support shown .Regard 4D
Thanks for all the support guys it is really appreciatted.
I have a few options in the fire....time is the issue as well as the funds.
my first option is not so bad found a bottom end ( unsure to the quality due to the top end being destroyed ) thanks to Chrisp for the heads up...will try this option first
option 2 ..complete engine and alternator from ooop north " the expensive option " lol 450 quid jobbie.............( engine plus alternator )
i have contacted almost everyone that has a 600 engine and the best price i have been offered is 350 quid and the worst 450 quid...the ebay 600 engine listed is 400+...........never realised the market for 600 ducati engines was so strong......................
will just have to wait and see what happens next......................
cheers guys.

You could try this number. The guy had one on ebay I don't know if he sold it but I spoke to him and he said £350.00 would buy it (29,000 miles). I was going to buy it to fit the big bore kit as I thought me engine was too late a model. Turns out mine is ok so give him a ring he may still have it 07747747707. best of luck

Glad to have been of help, was just pure chance I popped in to 1st Call Salvage in norwich to see John about some bits & saw the motor sat in a corner, was only when I got back yesterday that I saw your post. Hope it gets you back into the fray.
