Could anyone please enlighten me as to any spec changes to a US 998R as opposed to our humble version? emisions, power output..etc.. left hand drive..

Good question! I just looked back through a few Motorcycle USA reports and there was no mention of any differences between the Euro & USA models. 139Bhp quoted in the magazine for output, same as Euro model.

Not so for many 996 models but the 998R seems to be the same spec. Wait for more enlightened ones to speak first though.

Yeah thanks for that Ziggi, I've got a contact over there who knows of one going a smidge below book, and it may be worth the trouble shipping it over and still have enough money left to tax it.
Have you been tweeking your ride height adjuster? your picture suggests you might have..

Tonio - I might have tweaked it a bit yes, but that's quite an old pic now.

I would love to be in a position to ship a 998R from USA ! What an adventure that would be. Visit the bike - combine with a US Superbike round. Arrange the shipping and then wait for the bike to arrive back home.

Its worth checking with Customs & Excise if you will have to pay import duty and VAT when importing the bike from outside the EU. If you do the bike may not be so cheap after all.

And it might need the SVA thing?

You'll need to look here

http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/motorcycleowners/importingandbuildingvehicles/00importingandbuildingvehicles.htm

Add £150.00 for the SVA (as it's not coming from the EU)

Headlamps will need adjusting
You'll need to source a model report
It's a PITA

You will have to pay VAT @17.5% as it's a non EU import (need to check on the rate Duty) and this has to be paid before C&E will release it from the docks.
