i see dave harris posted 51 bhp for his bike not sure what dave's running but is this what we should be expecting anyone else dynoed their bike.

That sounds like a 583 engine.

I know of a 58bhp bike, that's with standard pipes and a Big Bore.

I think 60-62 ish will be a good figure from a 620 or a sorted Big Bore.

the old man
22-Mar-2005, 23:05
have heard of a standard 620 producing high 50's and would expect a well sorted one to be low 60's. would be surprised if a well sorted 583 with big bore can better this.

looks like i'll be about 6 to 10bhp down on a fair few of the entrants then. Still thats what you get when racing on a budget. So far my whole project has cost £40 more than the tuning work & parts on my GSXR600.

But can the figures be compared between bikes?
What's the variation between all the different dyno's used?

23-Mar-2005, 11:41
Not sure how much difference it will make Nick - I was out yesterday and I felt I had an advantage out of corners on my ickle 600 as I could twist the throttle hard and not worry about spinning the rear where as they were having to be careful on a damp track.
I guess it's true what you blokes say - It's not size (cc's) that matter it's how you use it ;)

My bike has the big bore kit but had only run for about 20 minuites before the dyno run, fuelling is ok power curve is good and the torque curve is good It may be just a tight engine. When i have done some miles on it and a couple of races i will reasses the situation and will set the squish and dial in the cams if neccarsary!!

Not sure it matters really, you kinda get what you're given. You make what mods you deem fit or affordable to you and then line up. Power is a factor, but not as important as rider ability.

Was it Barry Sheene who said "When the flag drops, the bullshiit stops" ???

Bring it on!

Does the bhp really make that much difference?

I did a track day on saturday and spent most of my sessions dicing with a guy on a classic with approx 80bhp less than me.

OK, so he has raced the manx etc, but it goes to show that its 80% rider and 20% bike!!

Can we start a sweepstake on who will win?

As Tim said ....the power and the bikes are all gonna be very close....its going to be rider skill, experience, race craft, knowing how to ride 55bhp bike and not a 130bhp bike, AND balls.................

Some have all the above and others have some of the above.....should be interesting.

As for the sweepstake...

If I were allowed to put some redies on it (of course we're not, under the Sporting Code!) then my bet goes on AK's bike.

I just typed up a response but ... suffice it to say that you guys have a lot more experience than I do on the track and at the tracks we're racing at. By doing what I'm doing I'm just trying to level out the playing field in a compressed timeframe.

Can I just add, that as a betting man, I would not bet on me... yet!

I think I will defo have one of the best bikes on the grid, Louigi is a star and I'm blown away with his work, HOWEVER, Weeksy is right and I am fat, unfit, not ridden in 2 years (on anything - apart from the missus) and I'm not looking forward to the first turn at Cadders!!

IMHO, I think you could still put the best rider on the worst bike, and they'd still win. This isn't MotoGP where is really matters about the bike being perfect. 10bhp is nothing in racing. I've had my arse kicked by a fetus riding a 125, when I've had 100bhp advantage, and I've also beaten riders with far superior machinery.

I can't wait for 6pm on 1st May, when it's all over and Louigi's bike and I, are still in one piece... Whatever the results!!

When the flag drops the bull **** stops - everything else before then is fiction.

And; you can't compare racing to track days just like you can't compare track days to riding on the road.

Old Man he says, "race schools can teach you theory and technique but it mostly counts for jack when you're six abreast with the back wheel off the ground on the brakes and going for an 18 inch gap".

The big bonus was fitting the shock from ebay.de. Seems to be a highly-pukka unit with the damping adjustments having loads of effect. Funnily enough Nelly commented the casting looks the spitting image of an ohlins, and the number of rebound clicks was the same..... :D We'll see tomorrow!

I could always get one or two of my mates to get in to my riding gear and do the odd race, they will only be considered if they have won either several club races, club championships, raced as BSS or higher or have won at the IOM,

Felix its because I have been hanging around the club scene for so many years. Going to places like Lyden where the likes of Shakey and Danny Beaumont would be on the front row of the 600s, guys like Kenny Everest was a novice when I first watched him and helped him improve his bike setup so much so that he won the 600 race proper the next day where as up until then he had only won the Novice races, Now he is a MRO winner. Sadly I don't see as much of them these days as I use to. Its good to go to the BSB & MRO meets and catch up with some of them, especially when I go with my mate Adrian who keeps saying I use to beat him and him and him .................................................. .............
Where as I say I've been lapped by him & him & him..............................

Thats why I know I'm not fast as I know so many that are.
