View Full Version : Will fitting a Oberon Cyclone pressure plate effect a slipper clutch on a 1098/1198

As the title says..

running a factor slipper clutch on my 1098s, just removed a Oberon Cyclone Red pressure & Ducati Corse Carbon open clutch cover from my 749.. Thinking about sticking it on my new bike...

Im guessing it will fit, but not sure if it will bugger up my slipper clutch function...


Any ideas...

Slipper clutches and non-slipper clutches use different pressure plates.

If you look at the other side of the pressure plate, you'll see that the standard (non-slipper) plate is notched, but a slipper plate is not.

The slipper will still work with either you just have to make sure you get the aligment correct when using a pressure plate with teeth

Keep rotating it until the clearance around each spring post is equal on all 6 posts, there are only 6 possible options.
On the standard non slipper clutch Ducati make it easy by giving you alignment marks, on their slipper clutches they machine off the teeth making it easy to get right, your just using a combination of the two

Cheers.. I never had a slipper clutch before, is there any other way apart from riding it 2 confirm alls in working order... Or is riding it & changing down a gear the only way 2 confirm?

You can try putting the bike on a decent stand with bearings. sticking it in gear and rotating the the wheel in the forward direction and you should see the pressure plate move outwards as the inner clutch drum drives up the ramps, other than that you need to ride it. Make sure you get the end gap between the plates and the inner hub correct

The other thing to watch is the depth of the spring pockets. Generally they are deeper on a slipper clutch. Using a normal cover or an aftermarket one can lead to spring bind, limiting the amount the plate is able to lift. The 1098 has lighter and slightly longer springs which can make it worse.
You can space the caps off, but as a rule, i'd only use a plate designed for a slipper

Removed the standard clutch cover to find a shinny red Ducati Performance slipper clutch plate...happy days..... No need to change anything......

. My Oberon clutch plate, springs & caps are up for sale now...
