We are in the process of switching over from the old sidebar adverts, which have now all expired, to a new way of displaying Google adverts instead.

This will provide a better return for the Club, while retaining control over what you do (and don't!) see in the ads.

We will also be implementing varying levels of adverts between Full (paid) DSC Members and ordinary website registered users, so paid members will see fewer adverts (only on the search results and home pages) whereas those registered on the website will get in-thread adverts as well.

Things may look a bit wonky for a while until it's all up and running, but stick with it!

Fortunately, Google Ads allows us to block that sort of thing ... but it looks like some people here might be the ideal target market ...

I keep getting "Mature Dating" ads coming up on a certain other Ducati Forum ... not quite sure what they're trying to tell me!

I'm always in the market for any enhancement...about the only similarity between me and Lance Armstrong

Depending on what your advert is depends on whether you would be able to.

Drop me a pm or send an email to chairman@ducatisportingclub.com to discuss.

So we've been running the Google ads for a couple of months now and it would be good to hear some feedback. We've not earned much (as in, it's not enough to cover the website cost) but it's better than nothing!

What do you guys think about the adverts? Ok? Bad? Indifferent?

If it brings in revenue to the club then I don't mind them.
Although they can be annoying. I had been looking at a present for my daughter recently. Last night I was on here and she was looking over my shoulder and the item popped up in the Goggle ads.

That will be Google tracking your searches and matching them up to the adverts!

I believe you can turn this off though:

1. In the top-right corner of each advert is the "AdChoices" logo - http://www.computerworld.com/resources/images/adchoices_logo_lg.gif- click this
2. A new page will open at http://www.youronlinechoices.com/uk/ with some options
3. Select the "Your Ad Choices" option
4. On here you can turn on/off which companies are allowed to track you, so you could select the "Turn Off All Companies" option
5. Confirm/Save your settings as required

I'm not sure if you will need to do this repeatedly, but I do expect you will have to do it for each machine/browser that you use (ie, on both your home pc and laptop or ipad) and it may be worth going back every so often to confirm the settings.

Note that this is not a specific DSC thing, but a feature of the Google Ads system used on pretty much every website!
