Let your kids on your PC to do whatever they want and don't run your spyware software for a month!

I did a speed test on my PC this evening when my connection was running like a dog with no legs and 46 kb/s. For those of you who don't really know if that's good or bad I was expecting to see around 960 kb/s!!!!! 46 kb/s is the same as dial-up!!

So I updated my versions of Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot, updated the definition files and ran some scans. It has cleaned off over 400 spyware/malware objects. I ran a netstat prior to doing this and there were SO many dodgy looking connections running out to the internet I wasn't surprised to see how slow it was.

My last speedtest was 958kb/s

Make sure you run your spyware tools once a week and keep them updated!

Top tips, from TP :D

Set up a scheduled job

Man of your ability can do that :)

And get a firewall that uses MD5 checksums to control outbound .exe's

You shoud know better, (insert tutting sound)

Is there something to be said for bringing work home at this point?

I setup a scheduled job after I got the new versions earlier. But being a lazy git, what firewall product has the MD5 checksums?

I hope you're talking h/w too - I would like to replace my ageing Vigor 2200We with something that does 54mb Wlan.

I use F-Secure Internet Security on all PC's for my firewall purely because it adds checksums to all approved apps.

I used to use Kerio Personal Firewall and that did the same, but the MD of F-Secure UK's a mate so......

This is in addition to my H/W firewall as well.
