Had an excellent day today, nice run across country to Popham for the Hants meet (hope you're feeling better soon Pete) then a quick blat up the M3/25 to Red Leaders for coffee and doughnuts with CK and DRIBBLE, the boy wonder, and a short hop across the Thames (we did use a bridge though) with AK to say Hi to Rally (I'm sure you'll be able to put your prang behind you when you get your DD racer on track mate ;) ) and a lovely ride across country to get home. Fuel light came on about 10 miles from home so, with about 3 miles to go, I pulled into my local Shell garage and topped up whilst chatting to a guy on a K1200RS who had pulled up at the pump next to me, nice guy and a smart looking bike, if you like that kind of thing :P and got a mile and a half up the road when cough, cough, splutter, bang the engine cuts out restarts immediately before stopping ina cloud of smoke. The dreadful sinking feeling I had told me that I knew what i'd done immediately, but checking my receipt confirmed what a plonker I was for filling my bike up with DIESEL :flame:

PS. Sorry PayneP and NBs996, I've got Rally's Rivnut tool at home with me now, didn't quite make it under my own steam tho

Drain it out mate, flush the tank out and refill-should be ok-diesel is just heavier fuel, lot more oily so should just act like upper cylinder lube.

Plonker yes but a good keeper of secrets ????

I hope not!

C'mon, spill it diesel boy

Hope the bikes ok and the filter is easy to change but you might want to get a new o-ring for the tank before you start as they do get nipped quite easy when you put the pump back in the tank.
If you dont use it you will have a spare for next time you fill it with diesel and have to change the filter again :P :P :P

Many thanks to the main man for turning out from his sick bed to help (I use the word loosely cos I did naff all to help him do the actual job!) replace the fuel filter in my tank. Cranked it over a few times. Then a few times more and it starts coughing again until it eventually roars into life. Good job Pete's hatchback was open or else the whole street would have been smoked out
Only problem now is the broken front locating spigot under the tank! When we lifted the tank off with the bracket, it stayed behind, it could only have been the stiction between the tank and the airbox holding it solidly in place cos the rear bolt just about stops it falling off completely :o :o
Unless someone out there has got a spare (any condition so long as it's working) I'll now have to wait until one comes in from Italy this weekend.
Have a good'un y'all ;)

Petrol in a dieso engine is a nightmare! The diesel acts as a lubricant to the fuel pump so that gets shot almost immediately! If you're really unlucky the petrol pools in the cylinder (no spark to ignite it) and washes the oil off the cylinder wall then mixes in the sump!! Any piston engine run without lubricated bores wont last long and it can only get worse if the petroil mix gets pumped to any hard wearing part crank bearings! Sorry mate but OUCH! I got off light!

BIG! and probably invalidate most of his warranty too!
