Ok, so I start stripping her down and find the usual assortment of rusted in bolts, rounded off Allen heads etc and then I get to removing the sub-frame. Stripped the easy electrics out, took out the shock reservoir, and I just can't figure out how you are supposed to remove the "Brain". I've removed the 4 nuts holding it down, I've looked for a cable connector to, ahem, disconnent and I just can't see how this should be done - it's removal is not described in my manual either :puzzled:
Any advice would be appreciated.

regards

Got a pic as I haven't had a 851 does it use a P7 or P8 type ECU

On the later 851/888 (and Laverdas) there are only 3 bolts (rubber cotton reels actually) holding the P7 in place, so I'm a tad puzzled too?

The 35way connector has a sprung tab holding it at one end and it hooks on at the cable entry end and on mine its a case of springing the clip off and angling the connector so that the hook disengages and voila!

With practice it gets easier than trying to write how to do it!

Hope that this helps

OK, there are 4 bolts holding the 'brain' in place and I have removed all of these. I can see that the wiring harness goes into a connector and it's this connector that I just don't seem able to remove.
At the rear end of the connector is a small philips head screw and this is next to what looks like a pivot pin.
Initially I thought that the screw was just the connector retainer and removed this expecting removal to be easy but it does not want to budge - obviously I was not keen to use a lot of force as I'm not aware of how tight a fit these things are !!
I'll try again tonight and if not successful then I'll post some photos.
cheers

Neil,

You can clearly see what a Spaghetti system looks like compared to standard headers although the ones in the pic have been modded in the cross over. Rgds, Rob

yeah - cheers mate, I'm picking the pipes up tomorrow morning, then I'm across to Leeds to drop my motor off with 'Ducati John'.

It's all go at the moment - I've also managed to get confirmation of an order with Ducati for a load of stuff at what seem to be really good prices, odds and ends like clip ons, brake & clutch levers + mastercylinders, seat units, body parts, bracketry, fasteners, screen, dashboard, control cables, hoses, hydraulic hoses etc

What I can't get over is the fact that performance bits seem difficult to get hold of, but I'm new to Dukes so maybe it's just a case of learning who to speak to !!!

Where is everyone getting these cheap parts from, everytime I go anywhere for something, they haven't got it and charge full price.....can someone let me into a secret? :saint: I'm still after a seat cowl, and am loathed to bay £78 for a lil bit o plastic.....

Yup, sleeve over pillion seat, same as the 888 on mine, but I believe the early 851's had a different type, but £78......think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet!

hello Neil !! - £78 for the cover !!! jeez that's a shocker, I've not received the parts as yet (and I need to check the part number) but I believe I've paid £30.60 + vat from Ducati.
I'll check the part numbers tomorrow and let you know.
cheers

£30.60.....Which Ducati Dealer? Take it that it wasn't the local yokels known as M&S in Newcastle......

just checked with the local yeeehaaaaahs and I've paid the following for rear seat parts:
seat cover 59510091A £61.06
pillion seat 59510071A £29.71
although the order has gone through, they are now saying that the seat cover is a discontinued part and that I may not be able to get hold of it !!
I've obviously got myself mixed up with the two part numbers - sorry mate.
cheers
