View Full Version : A Serious Sight For Sore Eyes....At last !!!
Those of you that were at the DSC Track Day at Cadwell on May 7th 2004 will no all about my troubles..
Well after nearly 12 months to the day, my 748R motor was returned back to me this evening almost ready to be put back in the rails.
Have to say I'm pretty bluddy chuffed...Thought I may not ever see it again:(
Basic rundown of the resulting work is as follows:
Ducati Corse crank and pistons - from a certain World Champ's bike
Ducati Corse Pankl rods - from another certain World Champ's bike
Unspecified head work
Cams properly dialled in
Corse factory primary gear and water pump with oversized impeller
Clutch - TBA but looking damn exciting too (once a certain person's finished with it)
Displacement is now 777cc due to bigger throw on the crank Vs OEM item (2mm head gaskets made to order).
This little beauty should be a different engine entirely to what I last rode...can't wait :D:D:D
Have to say a big thank you to Stewart and Guy at NME - stars the pair of 'em.

:lol::lol: LOL Simon,
1st impressions whilst moving it across the garage carpet are that compression's off and rebound could do with a tweak or two.
At least I'll get me pound coin back when I return it to Morrisons.....:D
Halleluyah! Anything that takes this long to cook, better be good. It sounds like it is.
Gis a shout if you need any help.
Run in nicely ready for TA4 then Guy??
John
Guido,
Just as well you didn't put the Rolling chassis on E-bay last weekend:o
did they give ya any advice about engine oil:P
Refit & ENJOY,
Ray
Excellent news Guy. spec' sounds interesting to. Be interested in how she goes when it's all bedded down.

....and about time too....that was a long wait without your pride and joy Guy. It looks like your getting close to the last chapter and you'll be back on the road soon. I'm really pleased for you, it's been a long time coming, but it sounds worth it, should be a stonking ride.

That's bloody brilliant Guy!
If ever anybody wanted to see a definitive portrait of a dejected man it was you sitting next to your sick 748R by Park Corner. I remember coming past you as you sat there thinking that you'd had an off, then being relieved that it was just a breakdown, but man....what a breakdown!!!
If that had happend to me I would still be off the road.
The spec of the engine looks awesome and I can't wait to see you up and running round Cadwell again.

The Maestro - Guy Johnstone enjoys a well earned Kroenenbourg 1664 as the 748R warms up

Nice one Guy.
I guess that beer you are supping will be followed by several more!;):D:D:D
I am guessing you got it running in time for a trip to Mallory as i have photos of a suspicious character that looks like you... although it was from a distance and the zoom on the camera was not too good!

Well done Guy.
You knew it was going to be a while for it to come back but 12 months???
The spec sounds breat, cant wait to see your smile back mate, its been too long eh.
Gis a shout if you fancy a coffee and a chat at Squires.
Going through the same problem with the bottom end but hopefully its just the main bearings thats gone, will let you know later this week.
Chuffed for you mate, and jealous too.
Thanks folks,
JPM,
Got to Mallory but used my Pa's Mille... Still have to MOT the 748R and bleed all the fluids etc.
Had an eventful day at the BSB what with putting the disklock on the Mille upon arrivial and then wasting 4 hours of the day trying to get it off after I realised my keys were 150 miles away in York.:mad:
Shout if you see me.....I accept all insults from crowd members 100 yds away, and who knows, I might take a pic of you... Got a call from Dibble whilst at Edwinds and swapped waves. ot the pics of Jamie Robinson by the way Michael :D
Sorry to hear you're having probs too Geoff. Will bell you when I get the R road legal....and have the long awaited coffee.
Gc
Guy
We were opposite you on the exit of edwinas when you were lurking in the undergrowth, have a picture somewhere.
Guy, I think you will find it was Jon that wanted the Jamie Robinson pics ...
And did you get yourself in the right place at any point in the day ....
Have to say we were watching you scampering from one incident to the next and being 15 seconds late to all of them .. just one of those days i guess ....
You know what Guy?
Your definition of "Here she is all back together" and mine are two completely different things.
Mine has usually got a fuel tank on it before I think it's finally built

Glad I didn't try and have that bowel movement I had been dying for all day Lily whilst I was near the lake....was desperate but concious I had 4000 people nearby watching me with cameras regardless of the zoom power:o:o:o:o

Ring me when you are ready for take off ;)
Well folks,
Got he R taxed yesterday so it's now legal...
Last night was the first run out on it to see what I had.
WOW
The bike can only be described as a 'Mid Range Missile'. Tons of grunt from about 5k upwards. I have to run it in for a couple of hours but it looks like it'll be fun once I can unleash the full bhp curve...
The clutch is ace too (the donor was none other than Gregorio LaVilla). Never had a full slipper before and on my initial tentative testing it's awesome...
See ya soon...
A Very much happier Gc
