WOW thats a race weekend if i ever saw one......looks like we are gonna need MORE jerry cans..lol.......
Phil
Eh? 3 DD races?
Where did this come from?
monty posted summit about it..??? sounds weird to me.?
Phil
I was told that it is on the regs-basically New Era have time to run 3 races per class and so have decided to do so-but no points or prizes for third race as far as series is concerned.
Check your entries racers to confirm this-or otherwise?

I read that they'd be putting on extra races (non-qualifying) - due to poor turnout for the racing!!! So there may be a third DD race on the Sunday?

it was on the entry details we were sent i wondered about it too. just spoken to new era as i had to give them my transponder number anyway and the lady said they are planning to let everyone have 3 races, could be mixed classes but as we have a fairly big (at the moment) grid anyway i suspect we would get our own 3rd race?
if this does happen can it be decided now how this will affect the series points etc ? will it be a non scoring race or will it count? a vote maybe ?

I'm sure the New Era details said non-qualifying !!! - should be great practice for those wheelies over the mountain though !!!

yes but thats for their own clubmans series or whatever isnt it i think. as we are organising our own in effect we could make it an extra qualifying race or just a non qualifying race which imho doesnt make any sense
I guess it's up to those in charge, but if there's some spare time to play with then I'd prefer to see two slightly longer races.

Given we haven't got tyre warmers I'd rather see 3 warm up laps per race and 2 races.

I would be happy if its a 3 race format especially if my bike gets to the grid 3 times

ok then, lets chuck all the ideas up here......
i'd rather have 3 races that qualify for the championship (not because its will make any difference to me b.t.w) just seems to make sense.
cant see the point of increasing the warm up laps when all the other races are run on that format.
and cant see the point of having a race that doesnt count for anything, too much at stake for that. if thats the case i'll sit it out. would actually be really good fun to watch a DD race that im not in:D

good idea.
with all due respect, could be the only chance for one of the less talented riders (myself included) to win something.

So how about the Powers that be donate a pair of tyres to the rider who improves the most over the 3rd race compared to his/her first 2 races in the day...
It then at least gives something to fight/battle for ?
Improved in what way..?? position !! lap times !! how many positions gained !!! i think it is way to open to interpretation to have it run this way......BUT a good idea to have the 3rd race as a race in its own right not connected to the dd points table with a seperate " reward " for the top err 20 ( yeah i should get in that )....
:P

Simple option is to have 3 races that all count in the dd.....
Phil
ps
Or we could debate this for hours not get everyones input etc.....

I would race for a prize of life membership of the DSC as it would save me a few quid over the years, not that my 583 bike with me on it is likely to get anywhere near wining.
But just as happy to race for points, would certainly emphasise the importance of getting to the chequered in the previous two races with out badly damaging your bike in one form or another.

So who'll be upset when they bin it in race one, only to miss an extra 35 points because of the additional race?
Do you really want to go into the second meeting 105 points down?

the senario where anyone who is likely to win all 3 races, bins it, is imho, unlikely.
and thats a risk you take with any race, if you want to push 100 pct and risk binning it its your call, or if your aim is to just finish all 3 races thats also your call.

Well, yes and no.
Think of it this way:
Race 1 : Rider A comes 1st, Rider B comes 2nd
Race 2 : Rider B comes 1st, Rider A comes 2nd
Race 3 : n/a
Outcome : Rider A and Rider B are equal 1st
OR
Race 1: Rider A was winning, bins it. Rider B defaults 1st.
Race 2: Rider A can't race. Rider B comes 1st.
Race 3: Rider A can't race. Rider B comes 1st.
Outcome : Rider A has zero points, Rider B has 105.
The ability of both riders is no different between the two, except Rider A has a DNF in Race 1.

rider b is a thinking rider. rider a just goes out and pushes without thinking.
they were both aware there were 3 races that day but chose a different strategy. you dont have to win everything to come first in a series. look at how some world champions have ridden in the past. happy to take 2nd or third in the knowledge that to try and push for first is foolhardy.

Lol! Tell that to Rossi!
The point I'm trying to illustrate is that the results would have been no different if Rider A had not come off / crashed / engine seized / got punted off - the difference is the points at the end of the round.
I'm unsure which way I would "vote" if we get asked. I'm just trying to play Devil's Advocate here by putting a counter argument across to making this extra (bonus!) round a points-scoring event.

Nah - leave it as it is - 2 races to qualify, then a 3rd race for those still standing to have a hoon around and get some race practice in.
I think that practicing under race conditions (oxymoron??) could be very useful, being able to practice another start, learn more of the track and in general work on a few things that went wrong in the races would be a great opportunity.
We are racing again there later in the year and it could be great for confidence building too.

Due to a complete lack of testing as I have only had one outing on the bike and then it played up only managing 3 short laps at a time then I can see me loosing out on a lot of points this coming weekend be it two points scoring races or three, it will just hurt my championship position more if its 3 races that I have problems in.
Yes better preperation would have been nice but unaffordable at the moment hopefully with a chance to sort things before June 4th, but up to this point the worse I was expecting was 2 DNFs and loss of points from two races now I could be looking at a loss of points from 3 races,
After seeing Fil2s problems at Silverstone the other weekend I'm sure its something he is having thoughts about.
Still with enough stoppages at the first corner we may find they run out of time to run 3 races in all classes.
So how about
Race1 of 3 full points
Race2 of 3 half points rounded up to the next whole point
Race3 of 3 half points rounded up to the next whole point
With all finishers in races 2 & 3 getting a addition 2 points for finishing
Race1 of 2 full points
Race2 of 2 full points
Has anyone thought of Rally & Psychlist who arent going to make the first round - this load up the points against them?
I was quite happy with the idea of a non-points race at the end of the day, it'd be a fun way to end the first meeting.
The majority of folk are going to be emotionally shattered by that point, some will be driving home, and the prospect of another (unplanned for) race that they need to do may not be welcomed.
Cheers,
ali

Sound ok to me - As you say it's going to be a long weekend for some of us, emotionally and physically, especially novices. That way we can take or leave the last race as it's just for fun.

We might not want to bother on the Sunday - weather looks ok for Friday and Sat now but looks like thunderstorms for Sunday depending on which site you look at.

Nice of you to think of me dahlink but Domski and Nickski (and anyone else with a name that rhymes with "Slide off the track a lotski") are gonna need all the advantage they can get for when Rally and I are ready at Castle combe  :smug:
ok guys just spoken to new era .... there will only be2 races for the desmo due bikes ... there are 3 races for the other 'new era' races but not for us.
provisional timetable looks like this ....
sat pm dd scrutineering
sat 5.15-5.30pm 10-15mins practice run (after sat races)
sun 9.00am untimed practice
sun 9.45am timed practice
sun 12.00pm first dd race
sun 3.30pm second dd race
all times are approximate especially sat as this is at the end of the day.
all races will only have 1 warm up lap (i've tried to make this 2 but if we get 2 everyone else will want 2 and new era don't want that so we only have 1)
the sot guys will need to get scrutineered early sat am and do their practice runs as directed. at the moment new era tell me that there are only 15 bikes signed up in the sot races (there will i believe be 3 races on sat) and 6 of these are dd bikes.
bit of advice from new era ... don't forget your acu licence and orange bib !
not long to go !

I think that at only £25 more for entering the SOT races, its gotta be good value though?

I'm reserving judgement on the SoT till I see how I do friday. For the extra pennies it may just be worth giving it a go for extra practice- We shall see.

Good point Tim, I was thinking of the SoT races on the Saturday but could well be worth entering for the Sunday as extra practice.
