View Full Version : Wets and/or Warmers?

Seeing the amount of money being spent already, and the possibility (I assume) that most trackdayers already have tyre wamers...

Is this rule closed until next year?

How about just warmers this year, and wets next?

Any thoughts? (be gentle with me)

The rule's not closed dom, but a change needs a petition with 75% rider support.

I was considering supporting the change request, but after seeing how the diablo's performed in the wet practice session, and considering I have no money to buy all the kit needed, I've (for the moment at least) decided my preference is stay with the current rule.

I was happy sliding around - it was kind of fun!

I'm still not convinced about the wet, but it was a pleasure not to have to worry about tyres cooling down in the holding area. So for now I say stay as we are.

Dom, think about it mate-it's not just the cost of a pair of warmers, but front stand and a genny too. If you are going down the warmers route you will no doubt want wets as well which is another pair of wheels and discs + tyres-getting expensive!

I agree with Ian totally :o

I think having used warmers in the past it plays tricks with your head and so you think the tyres have less grip without warmers (if you get what I mean)

Wets would be my choice over warmers... If I had to choose between the two.

I don't have money for either at the mo, but just wanted to know what others thought after our first meeting.

It's supposed to be a NOVICE race series and an introduction to racing fer fuchs sake
Whilst I know many of you can afford to throw loadsamunny at your hobbies it'll get beyond the reach of us mere mortals if you get even more bloody technical :barfy:

Very true, but a £500 big bore isn't exactly cheap either.

It's all swings and roundabouts really isn't it.

I'm not asking for a rule change, just making conversation ;)

I've got mates (honest) who used to race LC's - single control tyre, all weathers, just like us - who still had two sets of wheels.

The theory was that dry use rounded the sharp edges off the tread so the tyre didn't cut through the wet as well; hence they had a pair of dry wheels and a pair of wet wheels with lightly scrubbed rubber.

Just proves that in racing someone will always try that little bit harder / exploit their bigger wallet / etc.

Just out of interest; how much does a track day in Spain (or wherever) cost, or a session with CSS?!!

I kinda like it the way it is, but if we have a very wet race and there's lots of offs, there may be greater calls for a rethink.
