I would be grateful for any useful advice anyone can give me here.

I recently swapped my 22k mile 916bip engine for a 5k 996S, the new engine is superb, but at Brands with Focused Events on Wednesday I was continually missing gears. The main problem areas were changing down for Druids and changing up coming out of Graham Hill, where I kept finding extra neutrals. Most annoying as it meant I would nearly end up in the gravel at Druids and get passsed by everyone at Graham Hill. If I worked really hard at being super firm with the gear changes, they would mostly be OK but I know I was able to change gear on the 916 without even thinking about it and never hit a neutral.

Ideas/suggestions as to cause gratefully received.

a simple suggestion but try repositioning the gear selector using the bar rod adjuster to point the lever further down. When i had the lever too high up the gearbox was exactly as you describe.

Thanks ziggi, I'll definately give that a try - even I should be able to adjust the gear lever linkage.

my 996 was like that mate between 3rd and 2nd :(

My chain broke the other day and made a hole in the crankcase, so I got a fresh motor going in as we speak :D

Hopefully this will cure that problem :bouncy::bouncy:

ouch! sounds nasty age! expensive too

I wonder if I could fit the 916 gearbox internals in the 996........

Could it be the selector forks in the gearbox? I'm sure there's something about them...

Nelly?

Well, had some adjustments done by Ray at Rosso Corse - we'll see if that helps - if not, I think it's selector forks as you say JPM.

Well, I think it was better - I didn't miss a gear, but I only did about 7 laps before low siding at Paddock Hill and ending up in the gravel - straightened or replaced most things - but the Brake Master Cylinder popped its seal and so that was the end of the day for me.

I'm not sure what the adjustment was that Ray did - it involved removal of the cover that side, but not actually going into the gearbox internals - also had a leaking slave cylinder which couldn't have been helping with downshifts.

Oh well - I'll go and see what I can do about all the gravel rash...........:(
