View Full Version : Red Leader, down but not out ....... the boys home .....

Dibble
16-May-2005, 21:04
As this will become common knowledge in the next few days I thought I would post this message to save anyone any undue worry ...

Whilst in France Red Leader (Kevin) was involved in a serious RTA along with Fraser his best mate.

I really don't want to go into detail as I'm still finding it all quite difficult to come to terms with as the car involved only missed me by about 6 inches ...

Kevin and Fraser have both had a very luck escape and Kevin has a bruised and blackened eye and a broken rib, Fraser has a compressed vertebrae, both are fully functioning and have been on their feet today.

I have only just arrived home after a gruelling 550 mile solo slog.

The boys are hopefully being shipped home tomorrow or Weds by their insurers and are in good spirits sharing a room in the same hospital.

I hope you will join me in wishing them all the best.

Fella splattered himself and his Mille R into a rock-face at God-knows-what three-figure speed on the first day of our Scotland trip last year (amazingly no serious injuries).

Good thing about being in a group is knowing your friends will rally round.

Really releaved everyone survived. Two years ago we lost four members of the RSVR.net forum in the space of four months. Many gave up biking as a result. A deadfull time.

Take it easy Dibble. It's a great hobby but it's not worth....well you know.

Thank you all for your kind wishes and thoughts.
You have once again shown what this club is all about.
As you have read I am now back and although battered and brusied still have my devilish good looks and most of my bodiliy functions working again.
I can not convey enough to you all how much Dibble has helped during a most trumatic and difficult time for Fraser. me and our imediate family's.
Also the Guys that own the Bed and Breakfast ( The two Pauls) have been a shinning example, helping with everything from Bike storeage to food parcels.
You have surpassed yourselves again and being on the recvieving end of your kindness will help me overcome what was a most unfortunate and trumatic experience.
Thankyou once again and hope to be able to ride with you very soon.
Kind Regards
Kevin.

Nice to see you're back and sorted out now mate. Here's hoping for a quick insurance settlement and the bike sorted/new bike sorted quickly!

Do you know which way it's going yet? Repair or Replace?

Red-leader
23-May-2005, 19:58
As a guess Tony I would say that it wont come back. Its in deepest France and would think the transportation alone would cost upwards of £800. From the pictures it looks a pretty sorry state.
I would be happy either way just as long as it quick. My main worry if they write it off is the argybargy with the settlement figure. Its never going to be enough to just pick another one up + all my gear has had it so we are looking at a big lump to find.
Still lets look on the bright side for now eh.
Regards Kev

That picture has me stumped. No damage to front of bikes, big scratches from rhs of road behind car to where it is now.
Makes it look like the pair of you were rear-ended on your side of the road and taken across to the other side :o :o :o

Jesus, as if its not hard enough looking out for the to$$ers coming towards you, you have to worry about them having a go from behind too (if you know what I mean  )

Glad to hear you guys are getting better. A couple of our guys had to take avoiding action on our last trip. A French driver rounded a bend in a narrow road on our side giving a choice of hitting a rock face or the car. One of our guys consequently went home early with all the muscles torn down one side of his body (he chose the rock face as it was going slower !).

So if you go shopping for a new bike R-L, any ideas what your after (996/8/9) ??
