Ohlins rear

Hi,
Iam thinking about changing the stock rear shock on my 04 999 Bip for an Ohlins, does anyone know whether this is a simple job or a lot more involved and a rough price it would cost to fit:puzzled:

After watching JHP take mine out within 10 minutes I'd say it's probably a straight forward job, you might need a few special tools though.

I think it will fit straight in as long as you get the right one, but i wouldn't do it by myself.

I will be leaving it as a bip so I can put the pillion seat back on, for when the girlfriend goes on the back, so I take it the original spring is kept and its just the suspension unit that is changed, does anyone know how much it will cost to do

The Ohlins should be avaliable with different weight springs, no need to use original. Be about £500 depending on what u want.

goto www.ohlins.com to see what models are avaliable for yours and I believe if u buy from a specialist in the Uk they can add a spring for your weight and a pillion.

Only standard tools needed. It only takes 5 min to do. Me and the wife done mine. Undo top bolt a little undo bottom bolt a little. Lift the bike under the end can so it takes the weight of the spring. Then get a friend or the wife to undo the bolts. Place the new shock in. Do bolts back up. I do have the touque seting somewhere. On the Ohlins you can make the spring harder by adjusting the knob, for when you take someone on the back no tools needed. I could fit it for you if you want. On the ohlins standard spring it can take a fair amount of weight so i would'nt worry about changing the spring.
As for paying £70 to do this is just a rip off. swannymere you could DIY for free. It is a really simple job.

Or better still get two mates. One to hold the bike and one to do the bolts. This leaves you free to watch/supervise.
