View Full Version : Mad or not ? ( Continued )
Looking to go see my local Suzuki dealer to p/ex the 998 for a Gsxr1000 , at the mo its just to see how the figures will stack uo & to get a better look at the bike
Have been dreaming of a 998/6R
But have gone of the idea of 6R really want an 8R but to much money for me this year !
Thinking of going down the jap route this year then getting an 8R next year ,that way i have had my jap ich covered & then the R next year
And yes i know getting the Gsx then taking a hit when selling will prob ad up to a 998R this year but am curious about the jap litre bikes
Any one want to talk me out of this or give some logical solution to my problem :(:frog:

Would this be a new a GSXR1000? :)
Yep
Ps forgot to add , will i still get on the DSC track day :D:frog:
is there that much difference between the 6 and 8R ?
surely they both go like stink,
well so will the Suzuki but as you have said it wont be worth naff all next year.
be patient and get one second hand if you must go down that road, perhaps a test ride will stem your urge
Not much chance of getting a test ride on the GSXR over here the other litre bike maybe :(

Go find out about the Gixxer - get to ride one - its very focussed - very fast - very capable - but it aint a Ducati.
Try it and see - you'll be very impressed. As for getting a R next year, you might find that in a year's time the 996Rs and 998Rs will be more expensive!!
If you've got the Jap litre itch - go scratch - I did - you will be back though!!
Enjoy.

What parts have you bought for it?
Have you got the Yoshi on order?
Looks really good though - is that a special order for that colour?
Dave, sell that pipe for it's scrap metal value (should net you a small fortune!), and file the mirrors where only the dustman can find them... then that's a damn good looking bike.
Love them or hate them.... it just gets on with it :o with no fuss ! :ninja:

Same as the ZX - no fuss - no hassle - just blindingly fast - just a bit dull, bland, banal, trite, predictable, clinical - great fun though. ;)

Tim... the full Yoshi is on order along with a few other trick bits from the race team.... Works airbox and stacks and a few other mods .....175 - 185 BHP at the rear wheel :o The black is special order

There were a few out at Silverstone this week. As it was pussing down, they were having to short shift up the main straight, but they were still spinning it up in a straight line!!!
I think one went down along with a couple of ZX10s - they just have so much power that its very tricky to get all of that power down properly.
I wonder how much the ZX is worth against one of them!!!! ;) - they do have a back seat too don't they???? :)

Just back from the dealer , as was told 2.5 to change to the GSXR1000 form my 998BP (2002) as new condition with 45 termis/icu carbon mudguard/ hugger
Was hoping around 2 to change , but it was plain to see he did not really want my bike , was promised a test ride though so not a total loss
The Gsxr was a strange shape didn't really fit me that well compared to the Ducati that fitted me like a glove & seemed very plasticy
Dont think i will bother but will leave final decision till after test ride but things not looking good , money not the problem if i got him to 2.2 i would be happy enough !
No other Suzuki dealers near you then I take it?

I thought about getting a GSXR1000 too, but am glad I did not (IMHO). I had a Fireblade before my 996 and did really love it, but you can't compare it with a duke. When I had my blade they were two a penny and no-one really took any notice, when I got the 996 it got bundles of attention. The jap bikes feel faster because they are 4 cylinder (obvious I know) and scream their nuts off. The day I rode back from picking up the 996 I thought that it was not really that fast but then I glanced down at the speedo!
I came to the decision to buy the 996 over the GSXR because I asked myself a simple question. Do I want something every man and his dog are riding or do I want a slice of style and racing history. If you answer this one honestly then you know which bike to choose. Both are brilliant but only one has real ethos.

Yes actually & he owns both of them :(
YES!You are mad!!The right bike(996R/998R) is out there with your name on it.Be patient. It took me 4 years to get an SP5!!You've only been looking three months!:D
To follow on , i went and test rode the R1 ,got out for around 1.5hours till it rained ,and i though better of riding a new bike down some fast roads
Well !!!!!!!
Good points first
Its soooooooo quick
its soooooooo smooth ,best kept above 8k though
It handles very very well low speed & high speed
The connection between trottle & engine form on to off is so smooth
Bad points ( for me)
Foot pegs to low
The engine so sooooo smooth till the point of blandness
You need to ride it like a 600 & rev the engine
It makes so much noise exhaust & engine (microns fitted )
Boy does it pump out some heat
Will i buy one , ho hum , whilst i can afford Ducati's NO , if i needed a bike but could not get the Ducati i wanted then maybe but only a very small maybe
Next it a better run ( like all day ) on the R1 & the GXSR/ZX10
But if i can get my 996/8R then the japs are not for me
Waiting for Jasper to say I told you so :D:frog:
