Hi Guys,
Would any of you knowledgeable folk know what purpose this cross-member on my 998 biposto rear subframe serves? (the bit ringed in red).
It has never had anything attached to it, and I am thinking of removing it for highly technical and cunning reasons (it gets in the way of stuff).

Corse oil breather catch tank mounting
Just a guess though....

I don't think it's a catch tank/breather box mount, as it is a biposto subframe. thanks anyway.
If some one doesn't come up with a good reason to keep it, I shall perform a subframectomy next wek-end.

That would be the mounting point for the 1.6M CPU - looks just like my 996S bip frame hanging on the garage wall.

Thank you Ziggy,
My 996S had a solo alloy subframe, with the CPU mounted at the back.
Either way, my 998 has its CPU down by the battery, so I'll start sharpening the Dremmel.

Just before you carry out this tricky op, it doesnt work as a brace laterally does it?
I am sure that someone would have suggested this but...

Thanks for the words of caution L3OONY,
The cross-piece is quite thin pressed steel, with a bend in it, so there's no way it contributes any structural strength. It does look like it's meant to mount something for a different model.
