I think you will find the 3 that Skids put up, all have air under the rear tyre;) , the other three have not as they are still driving hard and have the power down :D

I believe the best way to negotiate the mountain is infact without getting anything airborne as per Tommy Hill. Time in the air is generally time not going forward - hence the phrase "time in the air, time wasted!". Being in the RAF I should know!

I know I'm slightly behind the thread on this, but I felt compelled to comment.

IMHO the fastest way over the mountain will ALWAYS involve a little or a lot of air, depending on the power of the bike you're riding. Except in the wet!

It's because the "air" is caused by a kicker bump on the left hand side of the track, threequarters up the hill that you don't really feel when you're going for it on a tiddler....but surely know about on a Superbike if you've gotten the power down hard enough at the bottom.

You need to maintain enough momentum through the bottom left into the mountain section that the right hander leading into and over the mountain gives you no option but to be cranked over to the right slightly as you crest it. Drive as hard from the right flick as you can/dare and as you reach threequarters up the mountain just back the throttle of slightly and relax your grip. Lean forward and hump the tank slightly but don't bother trying to hang yourself over the mudgaurd as a DD bike will simply not flip you over the back if you've reached this point. Nail it!!

The bike may wobble around and tankslap slightly on landing because you're cranked over, but as long as you're on full gas as you land it'll sort itself out no probem. I've never had a steering damper on a DD bike. Pointless.

In the wet, the situation is the same for the approach, only ALOT more upright, but keep your ass in the seat over the mountain as you'll spin the rear and waste time if you don't.

Hope that's of some use.

I'll be watching at Cadwell! ;)

Looking at Tim's photos that Monster tank does lend itself to being able to get over the front more than an SS tank does

To me that seems the route to go down, I have always got on well with the 748, 916, 996, 998 range as they seem to fit like a glove and a lot of that is down to the distance from the back of the tank to the bars.

Which is one of reasons i was discussing with Dallas earlier the building of two near on identical Monster based Class A bikes using 916 tanks. Hopefully we will start the builds in a week or two. One for me and one for him to race

Acutally Mr Pullen, you are wrong there! My oil pressure switch failed before i got to the mountain and I pulled off AND it was a different year!!

And when it got lobbed by he who shall not be named.it never dumped its oil!

And you,Sir should not be throwing stones in your glass house!!:frog:

I do believe there was an incident where one brother brought another off on their oil? Who was that then??

Jasper, your getting old mate, your memory is all over the shop :o

Paul was on about when I borrowed my mates ZXR400 and it popped an oil pipe and left a bit of a slick from the Mountain to hall bends :( nowt to do with your oil switch ;)

Yes, very true he who shall not be named did not drop oil from you stricken baby :(

And neither one of us has fallen due to the others bike leaking oil, Paul did spin up coming over the mountain on the oil left by the ZXR, but did not fall off :D , he managed to do that all by himself at Charlies Out  , so take you self to the naughty corner and administer your self a sharp slap :frog:
