As well as my 916 sps I have a 851 S3. Under what do I post my tech questions etc for my bike. Do I go to the classics, is it a classic? Or do I go to the 916, 996.... topic board and post my question/problems there
Or am I the only member with a 851, so know one can help me anyway

Beautiful piece of machinery. What's the "problem"? Surely somebody here can help you!

I saw one at Donnington, last week, among the sea of bikes.I just had to go over for a drool.

How do you go about setting up a new 851 string (if that's what there called)?
The problem is that it back fires a lot. If over-taking and then suddenly having to brake I nearly give the drive a heart attack. Frends have said that every now and then flames come out of the left pot. I have had into my mechanic and they have tuned it but the problem was still there, admittedly not as bad. We ahve also tried changing the sensors but to know avail. Has anyone with 851 had this problem before.
As to it beeing a beaut. I think it is one of the most beautiful bikes ever made. As is the 916. I can still get 240+K's (1991 model) out of it and it's handeling is great.

Try not braking after you have overtaken........!!
It could be that the packing in the cans has gone, my 851 was backfiring last year until I had the cans (50mm SP4) repacked.
Best place for 851/888 threads is in "Classic" in my opinion.
But then I'm biased as I've got one of each!!!!

I'm sure you've checked this stuff but just in case:
My old 851 backfired on the overrun when I first got it, it turned it had standard cans with an upgraded chip and SP airbox upgrade, so it was getting it in, but couldn't get it out quick enough ! Pair of termi's sorted it and improved the power.
