Well finally did it, got a Talon quick release, 14/40 sprockets and new chain.

What a difference, more accelaration, more torque, more noise and the bike just wants to rev and rev.

Well recommended.

Out of interest, what has this gearing change done to the bikes top end?

I suspect it has reduced it and the info i read suggests by about 8mph.

But I don't use the top end so for me thats ok. Not sure of a track in the UK where you can reach much over 130mph, so the top end will still be useable, you just get there quicker.

The thing is I have often thought about doing this to my bike. My engine is an 853 and gets a shift on very nicely so i reckon it would turn my bike into an animal.:devil:

Perhaps i will do this next time a need a chain and sprockets.

I run 14/39 on my 996, certainly makes things livelier.

If you get a quick release sprocket carrier then it is really easy to change to a different sprocket if you don't like the set up.

The sprockets are alluminium so only cost £25 each.

On a 748 hitting 11,000 rpm in top gear will give you 141 mph (using gearing charts).

I use 14/41 on my 748s and at 11,000 rpm it calculates 138 mph.

yep, got one of those. Like I said, just waiting for the chain to wear out as I would probably have to get a longer one to accommodate the bigger sprocket. Ohh errr!:P

Um,

I think that its 96. The front sprocket is 14. The rear is 38. I could be wrong though, as I cant be bothered to count the links at the moment.:P

that's the same combo as my :P
you could go to a 40 on the back with that amount of links.
94 is the standard so you are up two already.
mines about right but then it is a different primary gear to the 748sp

For a 748, standard front sprocket with a 40 or 41 tooth rear sprocket the correct amount of links needed is 96.
