Hello everyone...just registered and this is my first post...and is gonna sound a bit of a daft question.

i am about to pick up my first Ducati, a 1998 900ss next saturday and was just thinking about some aspects that i will need to know from the off. dont know where i got this thought from but...are Ducati's set up with racing gear shift pattern as standard?

i have just sold my FireBlade and curious as to whether the Duke will be the same shift pattern..namely...1 down and 5 up?

thanks.

Nigel,

The ss should have the normal 1down 5up if it has standard or DP rearsets that havent been tinkered with, although I've just gone down the reverse shift method to match up to my track bike. Best way to check is there should be some linkage leading to the gear arm, if the gear arm is straight off the gearbox, its reversed.

Welcome to the life of Ducati-hood.

Andy

ps A great year for building the ss is '98, mines run fautlesly since I had it 4yrs ago.

I have a 750SS 2001 and it only has 5 gears was changed to 6 in late 2001 I think. Not sure if early 900SS had 5 or 6 gears.
