View Full Version : Bizarre insurance quotes
45 year old male.
Engineer.
Living in SW Herts.
Not garaged. Parked in a cul de sac. Alarmed.
3 points.
Licence for ever.
Merc 2.7 Avantgarde SE estate. 2003. £28K.
Being turned down all over the place.
Best quote was £560 with the Halifax.
Full Comp. Protected. £300 excess.
Seems very steep.
Anyone got a better idea?
Cheers
Tim

I would say thats quite good for the halifax. Typically they have been £200 to £300 more than the next dearest for me.
You dont say what bike though.

Got my renewal from Carol Nash - £830.
Phoned then and said to give me their lowest price as I didnt have time to phone around for a million and one quotes - £780 :o
Phoned Devitt to see if they could beat CN - £670 :)
Phoned CN back expecting a tenner less - £580 :D
£250 off with 3 phone calls. Crazy dudes...
Not garaged, thats what has put it up. Here today gone tomorrow
If I'm reading the post right, it is for a Mercedes 2.7 Avantgarde Estate not a bike.
Have you tried Mercedes themselves?

Oh i see. I thought he was saying that he had an expensive car as well as the bike..
Interestingly most of my bike quotes that i've been getting say there is no discount for garaging it.

Mine would go up by about £400 if it wasn't in a garage!

Try Priviledge and play them off against direct Line (their owners) if you will take a bigger excess the rates come down quite a bit.

The thing i find odd is that my car is ultra ordinary (1999 fiat marea 1.6) yet with seven years no claims, no points etc its still more expensive to insure than the bike.

Blimey! Mine only costs £280 in the first place.
Yes, it's for the car.
It's a friend's and I was stunned that it should be so high.
I have the effectively the same address, an mine's a Merc 190e, 1990, and it's fully comp for I think £500.
Daft as a carrot.
But it was his Merc's quote that surprised me.

Yes but I have a London postcode. And I think insurance companies over don't particularly like me because I am Australian.

Oh there are so many comments to be made and so little time .... :frog::frog::frog:
All I have to say is: Pakistan.
I was trying to get a decent quote for my son on a 125 ... he'll be 17 next month.
1 yr no claims on a 50cc
Current 50cc ins about £440 TPFT on a Peugeot Supermotard
Bike will be a 4 stroke Italian built Supermotard (you'll not have heard of it) - cost £1499 on the road
Best quote Laxam Ins at £509
Worst quote Bikesure (run by bikers for bikers!) at £1,800!!!!

Got quoted £3600 FC for an RSVR before buying my 749.
Apparently i was too young (27 for f**ks sake, with 4 years ncb and a full licence for 9 years!) and the bike was "Hyper" sports bike.
Unfortunately I forget who provided me with the comedy quote.

That's definately a "f**k off we don't want it" quote!
