View Full Version : How long did your original clutch last?
For all you 748/9xx owners. So how long did it last? either before you changed it or it wore out. I'm just curious.

over 16,000 but when Neil Spalding removed it he did say it was the most battered clutch he had EVER seen come out of a road bike and keeps a couple of the plates to scare customers with ...
:(
I changed mine for a slipper clutch at around 11k miles - it was pretty hammered. The 2,500 miles I'd done on it to that point were city commuting in London, lots of clutch slipping.

Mine is on 7.5K and still going strong after larging it in the highlands for the last four days... My grin looks a little like this - :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

9800 miles from new so far, getting a little past it now.
I have been told at 5200 miles it was shagged on the 6k service and at 9400 this winter, more believable that one.
This is a slipper on a 748R

Just crept over 5k miles before replacing the plates :(
I've just changed mine at 24,000 miles.
The basket was pretty mullered but I was on my original set of plates (the lugs on them that meet the basket were also mullered but the friction material was still in good shape and could 've done more miles).

Changing plates at 7500 after experiencing extreme grabbiness, but others have said my basket will probably last another set of plates with a little cleaning up.

Yeah but those American miles aren't as big as proper British miles, are they?

second clutch in 15000 just fitted. Went whilst on a track day at Silverstone. Popped round to see John Baines and he strongly recommended a 48 tooth EVF clutch which he did me a deal on. Only marginally more than standard 12 tooth. Honestly have no idea whether it makes any difference at all but feels pretty good. That might have been more because I could finally blow our one litre rice burning brethren away down the Hangar straight.
Any opinions?

did about 35000 on my 1994 900ss before I changed plates, basket and inner drum which were all in a sorry state.
learnt my lesson after that and only did about 20000 on the 916 biposto before a change, then another 20000 then another change.
got a slipper clutch on the 916SPS only done 2000 miles since I bought it in May, and it has only got 12000 on the clock. I should find out whether it will do 20000 by this time next year.
after ive just fitted a new carpet,im allways asked how long will it last? i all ways reply with" forever as long as you dont walk on it"! i guess its the same on how you ride?

I agree pedro, clutch riding, too high gearing and traffic use does not make many miles for clutch life.
