How many points do you currently have on your licence?

My philosophy is save it for the track, so no points for me.
And there's no need to rush if I'm late... cos I'm already late!

How long do they stay on your licence?
I aquired 3 about 4 years ago and then last week I picked up another 3. All these were from driving the car.

Hello

None for me although I was sure I would get some on my mad dash to Castle Combe, parked up, walked up the hill and the DD boys came round the first bend of the first race.

Spent the last two weeks not looking forward to the post.

Hopefully all clear, so a steady drive to Snetterton maybe.

No comment Dickie......:P:P:P:P

As for how long, they are in force for 3 years and can be removed as listed below.......

Endorsements must remain on a licence for 11 years from date of conviction if the offence is :

drinking/drugs and driving (shown on the licence as DR10, DR20, DR30 and DR80).
causing death by careless driving whilst under the influence of drink/drugs (shown on the licence as CD40,CD50 and CD60).
causing death by careless driving, then failing to provide a specimen for analysis (shown on the licence as CD70).

or 4 years from date of conviction if the offence is as listed below :

reckless/dangerous driving (shown on the licence as DD40,DD60 and DD80),
offences resulting in disqualification.
disqualified from holding a full licence until a driving test has been passed.

or 4 years from the date of offence in all other cases.

had 6, lost 'em, then picked up 3 more last month.

I've still got the letter i read out in court saving me a ban, if anyone wants a copy... A heart-rending tale involving a mother who lives alone, a (generally) law abiding son, and a planned visit over christmas. The magistrates wept openly

Was wondering about this myself.

Currently 3, soon to be 6. Present points run out in 15 months (that's going on 4 years, not 3). I've never had more than 6 at any one time, and I'd like to keep it that way.

I don't believe I ride (or drive) faster than average, but obviously people who travel on unfamiliar roads are more at risk.

I found (probably) the same link as Rushjob quotes, but it doesn't mention this "3 years" business. Can anyone give chapter and verse on that?
Are we talking about how insurance companies regard it, or the actual totting-up for bans, etc?

It's tempting fate - declaring nil points probably means that some will be winging their way pronto

:(:(:(:(

All in HGV's.

I've had sports cars and bikes and never got a single point. Get my HGV licence and rack em up in no time - bugger!

The details are as follows...

54 in a 50 @ 4.00am only vehicle on the road!
56 in a 50 @ 4.00am only vehicle on the road!
51 in a 40
51 in a 40

All of them on twin lane single carriageway bipass's - no houses/schools/pavements/people for miles around.

A bit lame if you ask me. Not like speeding past a school or something.

Since when has a HGV been allowed to travel at 50 mph on a single carriageway road????
The limit for that vehicle is 40!

Nothing to do with insurance companies - "any driver who incurs 12 or more penalty points within a 3-year period is liable to be disqualified under the "totting -up" system. 2
This is from the Road Traffic Act and is chapter & verse so to speak.

Nil poi got me an isle of man licence and swansea can't load any on (technically) but it's all about to change apparently , i believe that at the recent TT the iom government had the right to put points on riders from the mainland for speeding offences so i guess it will happen over here soon so the loophole will be closed . like they say all good things come to an end sooner or later ! (bstards)

Most insurance companies always ask for "convictions in the last 5 years". Does this mean that they add them up over this longer period to increase the premiums?
If you are unlucky enough to get points are you supposed to notify your insurance company as soon as, or will renewal time do? If so do they increase premium as soon as you tell them?
Lots of questions but answers most appreciated.

Had none !! then got 3... Then got 3 more ! then 3 more =9 Then lost the first 3... Then the next 3.... Then got 3 more !!!=6 Then lost 3 from the first round and then lost the last lot = a big fat 0.... first time in about 16 years :o:o

Think the next one could be a prison sentence !! Had 189 mph the other day on the K5 !! and it still had 1500 rpm to go :D:D:D

0 for me as well. Got 3 in 1991 for 41 in a 30 on a CX500. Must send my licence in and get them taken off i suppose.

Got stopped for 47 in a 30 last year and got let off!

None. Last 3 came off last October. More by luck than judgement though.

I do keep my point allowance for the bike though. I never speed in my car. Frankly, it's so flippin' noisey that I can't stand going over 30 mph in it anyway.

I do try to be generally law abiding but there are times when the road just looks sooo sweeet .... and my bike just won't behave herself ... has to go for it ... :P:devil::D

Got 3 points in 1988 for 56 in a 30 at 1am, would probably get deported for that now, so got off lightly.

Learned my lesson, had none since (touch wood). Now stick to all limits in car. Most limits on bike, unless country road then marginally over. But that does mean you can do 60 round a bend also.

Everton was right. Declaring 0 points is tempting fate. I've just had to nip out for some office supplies and came across one of those kerb rats in a "Safety Van" (You know, the same one that pulled out on me on a roundabout in Clophill when I was on my bike).

As I saw the van I glanced down at my speedo just as I hit the brakes and I was doing 70 in a 60.

Might be OK, my GPS (which I wasn't using at the time) usually clocks the speed in the mid 60's when the car speedo says 70, so I may scrape into the "margin of error", and I was following a big people carrier. so I suppose it depends whether I was hidden by the guy in front, whether I was within the margin of error, how far up the road they point the things and whether they saw me before I saw them because I hit the brakes pretty quick (all in the cause of "safety" you understand)

Had 9 in total , now have 6 and I'm awaiting a possible court summons :o

1 x 42 in a 30
1 x 36 in a 30
1 x 45 in a 30

Possible court summons for doing 75 in a 40 ( Motorway temp speed limit )

Where I was doing 40+ in the 30 was on the same road about a year apart lol .. It's a nice wide and clear road without any parked cars ... I don't drive like a lunatic unless it's safe to do so ;)
