wet slipper clutch

I've thought about wet clutch conversion before but having seen Mario's I think I may give it a try.Has anyone else done it ? A few points I'm looking at.
What clutch plates would be needed?
Would stronger spings be needed?
Could material from the clutch contaminate the oil?
I have a spare casing to mod for oil to enter. Any thoughs would be appreciated.

Personally I like my oil to be clean, but then again I don`t have the money for a complete engine re build and new rockers on a regular basis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(

The only point of wet slippers is that they are a good excuse for sitting in front of the fire

Just picked up on this....so am I to believe it's possible to convert a standard dry clutch to run wet?

If so I'd be interested and in my opinion something exposed to this much mechanical wear and running dry is just not mechanically sound.

How does one go about a conversion then?

No cars have wet clutches though and some produce far more power than our little bikes! Even F1 cars are dry.

Two good reasons for dry clutches are

1. Friction material doesnt get pumped around the engine
2. The clutch spinning in oil creates a lof of drag and hence wastes engine power. Hardly any race bikes run wet clutches.


Bad points are that they wear out quickly, they are noisey and erm, thats about it as far as my experiences with them go.

I want to try it to get better clutch wear, less noise and be able to get off the line quicker.I know alot of race bikes use dry clutches but they are chasing every small amount of power and can replace them every race.

Some of the new Ducatis are wet clutch! Multistradas, 620 monsters etc........
