Duplicate ignition keys

My 2003 998 needs a new ignition key - are they chipped and therefore restricted availability or can i just go to a good locksmith
to get a spare cut?

NO Chip, the 998 uses a UNCODED ECU so you can just get a key cut

Later Ducati models use a Digital Dash with a processor in them that is coded to the chips in the Key, the 998 was one of the last bikes NOT to employ this setup

You can still buy genuine blanks from your dealer - about a tenner for the unchipped keys.
