Hello,
I'm here in Colorado and looking at racing a SS800 in our lightweight classes (currently on a ZX6 in middleweight). My main competition would be the SV650. There are no 800's racing in my club and even less information on them. Do you guys have any tricks to keep them competitive with the SV? I'm on a budget and also just can't bring myself to put a SV in the garage.

thanks,

Joe

Hi, I'm not on here very often, but do have a login.

The original build thread is here;

There is more you can do to the 800 than I did. The exhaust pipes in particular can be improved over stock to let it breath a lot better. Feel free to PM me here or on DUN.

Open up the airbox to let it breath properly .. I used to run with an open box and with a power commander and a decent set of pipes I was getting a reliable 76 bhp

Get the suspention sorted ..

The front springs are too stiff .. I had mine revalved too .. made a world of difference.

Get hold of a back shock with a height adjuster on (ohlins off 1000ss) .. you need to increase the shock length to quicken up the steering.

depends what your regs allow ...

Changing the cam timing can open up a whole load of mid range and tourque.

Lighten the flywheel (not allowed in our minitwin regs)

Open up the airbox to let it breath properly ..

I wasn't allowed to do this as it was breaking the Minitwin rules

Yeah .. I didn't work out I'd done something wrong till half way through a season .. and I felt no guilt because by that point there where already half a dozen super twins lining up on the grid with Gixxer front ends a 90 horse motors

It's policed better in some clubs than others

One of the reasons I shelved the 800 and joined DD

I think our cousins across the pond play by the supertwin rules .. I may be wrong but I don't think there's any restriction on engine tuning ... It's in the constitution
