Just had a look at my 748 after a ride out and have oil on the V Peice , and on the lower right hand fairing lower, only a small amount but not thinking it is a good sign any ideas what could be causing this??
Cheers
Rob

Rob, any chance that this is the residue from your blown gasket?

Have you had the pannels off to see if it's coming from your hed gasket or maybe check your oil level to see if it has been over filled?
Just thoughts mate

I had simular thing on saturday, that was oil line to top of cooler but the 748 has not got an oil cooler.............so i aint got a clue :(
no change there then :lol::lol::lol:
If you can't see where its coming from and its not dripping then I would clean the oil off the fairing and monitor it.
You even sure it's oil? Maybe tar? or brake dust or dust off the clutch?

Rob, have you got any oil running down your forks?
rob748b

Nope checked all of that aswell mate, there is no oil running anywhere as far as i can see, got all the panels off had a good look round and can see nothing wrong anywhere, just oil on the v peice and on the inside of the right lower fairing , totally confused!!
Just ensure it's clean up as you've done, ensure oil is at the right level and then just keep an eye on it, thats all you can do.
Unless it suddenly starts spitting it out then I can't see anything to worry about.
Worst case it'll be a weeping gasket anyway so no real biggy, may even be that the head gasket that was replaced hasn't seated tightly enough, but if you've checked it for weeps then it may not be that.
I assume you've checked all gasket joins for weeps.

hee hee your'e so funny dave!!!
All I know is I used to worry about every little thing about my bikes in the past and over time, just learnt to not worry about things as much.
Still be diligent and ensure everything is kept clean and topped up, bike warmed up correctly and serviced regularly.
Outside of that all there is left is to enjoy it

Not had any problems with the bike before this last week or so, so have been lucky really, just hope nothing major is on its way thats all!!
Cheers for all of your help much appreciated!!
Check your oil cooler hoses,if their the original duke ones, they are prone to splitting on the sleeve bit, mine have been misting out for a while and have now started to **** out...
Another popular leak is from either the o-ring that seals the cam bearing housing or the gasket behind the rocker pin cover plate.
You'll need to pull the battery tray off and then the cam belt cover.
Look for oil behind the cam pulleys.

Hi Rob,
Try this -
Fairing off, thoroughly degrease motor, and dry off completely
Liberally dust talcum powder (Johnsons baby is good) around the front cylinder and cases.
Take a ride.
With a bit of luck, you will be able to spot the origin of any oil leak.
Good luck

All sorted now,
thanks for all of your help and advice on this. Took it to get looked at and had a split pipe, also had a split coolent pipe so thats where the residue came from on the V Peice, so added together wasnt so bad I suppose but all sorted now, and i can get out riding worry free again!!
Thanks again Rob
