View Full Version : Brands Indy-do you want it??
A rhettorical question, we have the track, it's costing us loads to hire it, and I am doing a VERY cheap Brands trackday-so why have I only got 22 entries with only 8 weeks to go??? Don't you WANT to do Brands??
The offer is: get me your form now and I won't cash the cheque or debit your card until September-fair enough??
The other option is: do you want me to throw this open to bikes other than Ducati's and mates of members? Let me know people as I is getting worried..........:(
John
John
I simply can't justify the expense of getting there etc just for the Indy circuit, otherwise I would support you.
to be honest John it's a bit pricey!
Ditto Lily's comments, too far to justify for us especially for the short circuit
Understand that Lily, and Nick-it would be very difficult to do it any cheaper since I need 97 entries to break even and I can only have 105 in total! If you can get a Brands Indy trackday for less money then the operator is making a loss.
But-it's the information I need-perhaps Brands is too expensive for a club trackday?

... all DSC trackdays should be for members of the club who should be allowed to ride whatever they want. I really get annoyed when you start out saying Ducatis only and then when it gets close to the day it suddenly become anyone who can pass the mirror test
what's wrong with the indy curcuit, it's still a day of work and more time on a trackday surely, plus it's a duke day only.
I have no problem with it.
price wise, nothings cheap in this world, go to your local theme park and wastes loads there.
I know what i prefer.

Understand you point Henry old mate, but most members wouldn't support you I think-I will get loads of flack for even suggesting other bikes are allowed-I just can't win can I?

sorry, however much it was - or wasnt, we cant do this:(
too close to Cadwell last race, for AK to risk dropping it somewhere, with only 2 days to fix it - and going to work too.
Just back from hols the w/end before, so couldnt get more time off work
Sorry John

i would normally be down for it but for several reason, i'm unlikely to make it:
too late in the season to be any use for DD practice,
struggling with holiday days from work,
the great apex day earlier in the season tok some wind from its sails,
doing another day there soon anyway.
although im unlikely to be supporting this event i do still think it is a worthwhile venue and would have been packed had it been the firest/main DSC day.
although i am a great advocate of ducati/DSC only days i would personally open this up to all bikes and friends now as i can see a bit of a struggle.:(

I know - dammed if you do dammed if you don't. I'm sure if it was members only we'd still see mostly Ducatis there. Also understand that with DD and this wonderful 'economic turndown' we're experiencing it gets harder to justify spending that sort of money. On the positive side many folk made the trek from darn sarf to Cadwell so hopefully the northern guys will reconsider, the Indy is a brilliant circuit and after October it could be a long time before many of us get a trackday in again.
Talked myself into it I guess :)
"Talked myself into it I guess"-sounds like it to me Henry-I await your form. The thing with this North/South bit is that the bulk of the membership is southern based anyway-so Brands is easier for them-so where are they-where's Dibble??
John
I'm in for sure... I just need sort the membership at the same time. I know the problems that you can have with organising these things. I used to do them for a lotus club, until I lost a couple of grand and they then had to go through a t'day company as they build in a margin for low numbers.
However, I did found that the demand gets much greater nearer the date.
I love brands indy.......in a car........ never done a bike day!!!
Expect my form.

I'm booked on this one,;
- yes its close to DD ( but great practice)
- yes its a bit pricey (but its a great circuit)
- yes its more expense and takes holiday etc (but its a DSC TA day and will be a great laugh)
So, c'mon and get your forms sent into Monty, it'll probably be most people's last UK trackday of the year and will sign the season off nicely.
You'll regret it if you don't - and you'll get a t-shirt!!! ;)

£145 is pretty normal for the indy circuit i thought? though would not worry too much if i didn't get the Tshirt and was £5 cheaper (or BBQ like the apex one...Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.) just waiting to see a bit closer to the time on commitments and you may have 2 more ducati's booked up.

John,
What about sending out a bulk email to members, with the form attached, a lot of members don't use the message board.
Get Lizzie to put some forms on the Stand at the Popham Mega meet, perhaps with a poster?!
Sure it will fill up eventually, don't go the non member, non Duc road just yet:(
Cheers, Roy
I don't intend to Roy if I don't have too. Bulk e-mail is being sorted and forms at Popham is a good idea.

agree John, the tdo I used must've made a substantial loss, speshly since there was only about ten bikes in the fast group too!
I love BH Indy but the bank manager is getting upset!!
I would like to do it, but I'm not sure my finances will run to it - doing Imola DRE less than 2 weeks before it. Will be making a decision one way or the other in the next couple of weeks.

As a DSC event it would be great to see the DD boys and gal out there but appreciate that by then you will have spent a lot of money, please try though.
I have a feeling that after holidays the forms will come in, as if anything like me trying not to spend pre holiday. Good idea about book now, pay September.
Apply to the treasurer for DSC credit :D ....actually have a trackday now, pay .....

I'm here .. can't do everything though.
Obviously regardless of my attendance those that need "night before" accomodation are welcome to PM me and I'm sure I can find space.
I was all ready to book this after the Apex TD, then disaster struck
Mrs_S pointed out she was flying back from Euro Disney with Mr_S Jr that afternoon, so I have to pick them up from the airport. Otherwise I'd have been there.

Sadly it is Ducati only, if it was open to other makes I could be interested. I have several bikes that are worth a lot less than my 998 and a re meant for track use. I try to limit the race miles I put on the DD bike especially that late in the season.
I thought we were going to try and have two DSC trackdaysss per year one for Ducati bikes only and one for others, yes I know we had Snetterton but it wasn't quite your normal track day. fellow DSC members like Dallas have to miss out when its Dukes only, so there's another empty place.
But the main thing is finding the money and getting the time off work, but mainly the money, I can take my R6 and Dallas can take his ZX10R 30 miles up the road to Silverstone GP for less and with what we save on fuel we can have a lot cheaper day
I saw that one too Kev-they really are giving that one away.
I think there will be more TDO's going to the wall this year following ESS-just my opinion.
John
Speaking for myself only - I couldn't afford another TD this year before I binned the 999S, I certainly can't do it now!
Sorry, Monty :(
[Edited on 11-8-2005 by Loz]
Well, I want the day to go ahead, so I vote for it to be Duc-Owners but not exclusively Ducs on track.
(We could always invite the DOC :saint: )
Also, I can't understand why people like flat tracks like silverstone and snetterton. You can't even spectate satisfactorily there !
I think real race tracks are about corners and hills, not flat runways.
(And I still can't get over 'only the indy circuit'. Are you telling me that going as fast as you dare into paddock followed by full-bore-powering up to druids and braking as late as you dare isnt one of the biggest thrills at any circuit ?)
Paddock :D
I was one of those it's only the Indy I'll not bother until I did the GP circuit earlier this year. Paddock & Druids has to be one of the best corner combinations in the country. Paddock's probably my number 1. Awesome, love it, tempted to get the wife a cab from the airport (£70!!!)
Phil_H actually has a good idea, even though it was said in jest. Why not invite the DOC? If we don'tlook like we're going to fill it I can understand why we open up to non-ducati's from club members so why not consider inviting the DOC at that point?
They're all on Ducati's ...
Rob, if you're keen to do the day but don't have a Duc you can use my dd bike.

Hmmm yes I want it Monty, thats why I paid ages ago. I wanted it bad ( lol )
But not sure where I stand if you start changing the day from its orignal spec. I dont just track with any ol tom dick and harry you know.
Seriously I would take the Duke if it was all DSC and dukes only, but Im not gona pay 145 to take my manky Track Gixer with the attitude of dont care if I bin it like half of the non memeber nutters on their track bikes. My duke is my road bike and I try my best not to bin it on trackdays ( yea I'm prepaired it might happen ) but I feel safe with the other DSC members who all have the same respect and most of them that I go on ride outs with.
Hope it picks up soon or a decision made soon.

Yes your absence was noticed and your card marked accordingly-seriously though mate, hope you can make it.
I hope to keep the day Dukes only or at least members only-or even members on whatever they like and others only on Dukes, whatever. It may sound as though I am panicking-shades of last year with Rockingham then-but this is the most expensive trackday I have ever booked, it has cost us over £13,500 just to book the track so potentially a BIG loss to the club if it falls flat-BUT-there are still 8 weeks to go so plenty of time-if my nerves can take it............:puzzled:

I think we have to get this over to people who havnt booked (yet).
Last monday at brands there were about 20 people who hadnt ridden brands before - and who had booked the ess day with its extra structure and free xx9 rides.
The novice group was small and looked relaxed, while the 'other' group was also small but much more intense, with several people on dedicated track bikes.
How about having novice, inter and acu groups ?
Would that comfort people who dont want to risk a 'racing-type-incident' upsetting their day ?
I'm glad it's at Brands. It's only fair the DSC trackdays tour the country (bit like England International football games). I would like it DSC & Ducati only but would accept DSC member + another bike, if it means the day will go ahead.
It's bad enough being overtaken by everyone as it is but i'm damned if you're gonna overtake me on your yamasukiwhatever 250 two stroke ... again ... this session.

I think that's not a bad idea. But, I don't think there are enough people in the club with ACU licenses to fill a group. Also, there are people in the club who are plenty quick enough for the fast group, who don't hold ACU licenses, and shouldn't really be in the inters group.
Perhaps all ACU license holders who book it should go in the fast group for the DSC day? That will prevent sharks from floating around in the inters group or even novice. I think there will still be a variation in pace but the slower people will be on the right line generally and be used to being passed. That would be ok in the fast group IMO.
What does everyone else think?
Bearing in mind the comments from Cadwell about grouping WJB and myself + of course all the other instructors will be keeping a sharp eye out in the first round of track sessions and then moving people up or down as appropriate. There will be no 'sharks' in with the 'minnows' with no disrespect intended to either group.
This day IS going ahead, it is too late to cancel it now anyway as we would still have to pay for it-I just need lots more people to decide to book it.

That is soooo the wrong response Tony. You're supposed to say;
"Chi, despite the fact that you haven't raced, and despite the fact that you seem to fall off with alarming regularity, it is obvious that you are ridiculously fast and choose to go slow to make others feel better"
I can then respond in kind by saying that "You are a racing legend with kung-fu moves that are only matched by your movie-star good looks".

I was talking about this this afternoon with Mike the Mechanic. I HATE paddock hill bend. I hate it so much it makes me feel ill to think about actually paying to go back there. My eyes always fix on the gravel and I have to force myself to look ahead. And then it bottoms out. Other than that, the Indy track negates the real joy of Sertees.
And October, it could be raining, (although that's the case for any month).
Ok, I'm in. :sing::sing::sing: Of course, I've lost the forms. Monty, if you want to U2U me where to send dosh etc I'll commit.
And if you do open it up, which frankly I approve of because then other people have the pleasure of seeing at least a couple of dozen Dukes out there and can just drool over us, I'll tout it around a couple of bikers in Hemel who may be interested.

Yes I'm sure. I know I wouldn't do silly things with someone else's bike, so I hope most of the people wouldn't... And actually it needs new fairings
Anyway you'll be more than welcome to do one session with the #82 black 620 Sport.
