View Full Version : Oil pressure Light
Noticed yesterday after last session at Donny that the oil pressure light was flickering a bit when ticking over, but not when revved. Later when the bike had cooled down (It got very hot) it didn't do it.
Its a 996 with starship milage
if you unplug the wire and look inside the top of the oil sender switch (near where you top the oil up)
if there is any oil in there it's kaput
My 916 had the same problem in London traffic during the hot weather
Better now!
What oil are you running and how old is it. 10W/40 tends to result in low pressure under very hot conditions, especially if it's done a few miles.
Renew it if old or run 15W/50.
That's assuming the pressure switch is OK as already mentioned.

There's nothing wrong with the switch, the light is supposed to go on during conditions when the pressure is low. Read Nelly's post again.

I had a 748 that did the same. Italia serviced it and put 15w/50 fully synthetic oil oil in. Cured it straightaway.
They say that the 10w/40 oil is not quite high enough viscosity when the engine / oil get's hot.
