just had a look
looks like the locking mechanism is held in on underside by 2 phillips screws.

:burn:

Take the two screws out, drop the latch, catch the spring before it drops in the tank :o

Can see the bottom of the lock, but, can not see how to get it out

Any suggestions :puzzled:

If you mean you're trying to remove a locked fuel cap, I was in exactly the same situation with a used tank I bought.

Turns out there was no way I could get it out, ended up drilling the barrel out! :o

Sorry confused you.

All is working fine with the caps and I have the keys.

I'm trying to get the barrel out of my existing fuel cap and put it in to another one. My fuel cap is scratched to bits and I have aquired a brand new one to replace it with. Just need to swap the lock barrels over.

s**t see what you mean about spring !!
just had look (of because i have a screw one fitted)
got that far then lost my nerve !!
looks like if it can the silver washer needs to come off.
then the barrel pushed from key side in!!

i wouldn't be surprised the barrel is in for life and can't be shifted..

Actually putting a new one on to replace the scratched one that's currently on it. The last owner of the 999r rode with his leathers half fastend and when he tucked in behind the screen his zip has scratched the fuel cap

I have a new one in the garage that came off my 749 when I fitted the carbon tank so I offered to fit it as a returned favour.
