View Full Version : Preparation for Brands?

How'z the preparation going folks?

I've done my usual shameful lack of preparation;

Checked oil; NEGATIVE
Checked tyre-pressures (still on originals!!!); NEGATIVE
Cleaned machine; NEGATIVE
LOOKED at machine; Did so only whilst loading and un-loading it from the van on the way to my wedding!
Track-day at Brands; WATCHED the Dave Harris Memorial.

There...shocking.

However...despite running nothing more than standard gearing all season I would like to try some different gearing at Brands as everyone seems to swear by it!

Now, bearing in mind that I am both a tight-arse and v.poor after getting hitched to the lovelly Becci a week ago last Saturday (many of you will have met her wandering round the paddock)....HERE'S THE RUB;

Can anyone lend me a 43-tooth rear sprocket?

I promise I'll look after it!

Regards, and good luck to all DDers on Sunday!

I think 41 is standard gearing, isn't it? If that is indeed the case then that is what's on #99 already!

Gawd, how can I go through an entire season's racing without twiddling with ANYTHING....I'm not a propper racer!:(

Soory Andy can't lend you my 43 at the moment as it is option 1 for Brands with a 42 as option 2. For BB bikes I would suspect you would be looking at either a 42 or a 41.

Phil...you're asking the wrong man....do you honestly think I've removed the front sprocket cover to reveal the number of teeth? Of course not...but I'm assuming that there is an original 14-tooth jobbie there :puzzled:

42...43...does it really make much difference?

Skids...I'd always swallow my pride and have your No 2 "cast-off"

Do we have to prepare for Brands? I was thinking of wiping the oil off my cam covers, but I'm really not sure I can find the energy.... (or a clean rag).

Rumour has it that removing the lubricating sludge from the crankcases might help, but it means getting the bike off the trailer, and we all know that's never going to happen....

He wasn't in when I went to see him so I bought some, the fridge was empty!

But I'll be back to see him on Sat :D

He doesn't have his stickers done yet I don't think. So it might not happen until next year, if there is a next year.

You may jest, but she really is rough as the proverbial badger's tush....

Both of the spark plugs have fallen out, one of the wheels has fallen off (front, I think), the brakes have left the building, the bodywork is deeply distressed, the rear shock is mis-sprung, mis-set, mis-understood, and mis-sing....

All in all I'm considering dropping the 675 and entering on a rollerblade.....

I will let you guys in on a secret, - the preperation andy#99 does for the race is called a rain dance  Stop faffing about your sprocket and get on with it, you would n't know how to change it even if you were given one ;)

Do you lot prep your bikes then :puzzled:

My steed seems to magically get itself ready for race days.
It would seem that Little Beastie has even managed to shake off all that gravel strategically place in every orifice by Mr Payne at Brands... she's even managed to clear the gravel from INSIDE the wheels!

It's looking a bit shot-blasted tho... there goes the 'best presented bike' award :(

Preparation????:o

Since the DH memorial evening, Mrs Snot has had gravel hoovered out of every orifice, including the front piston, the broken seat pod had been liberally stuck back together, so it is no longer in 3 bits.
The other broken bits have been replaced, AK has rubbed back the pebble attacked panels & re-painted them - and also the seat pod (but dont look too closely please:lol: ) The bellypan has also been repaired & is now re-fixed.
All we need to do now, is shoot her down to MHP tomorrow nite & check all is working properly by giving her a spin on the dyno.

Then oad up the snot & her mate & get to Brands on Sat eve.....:)

there must be something else tho for Al to do.....oh yes, he's gorn shopping again tonight (or rather 'swapping bits' in exchange for other bits)

Now, why wont Mr Sainsbury barter his food for spare Ducati parts?:puzzled:

I have a tank and some fairings to complete the "Max Payne" look if you wish?

Mine's ready - it's been sat quietly in the garage since Donington (where it wasn't ridden very hard)

Oh, I have got to put some fuel in it - probably.

...something is bound to go wrong (again) now :(

I'm still finding chicken's gravel !
Took the rear wheel out to change the sprocket, and there was even some inside the swinging arm

Oy! that's "go-faster" gravel, that is. You need to leave some of it in to distribute the weight to the outside circumference to assist the engine braking......
