After much thought and consideration I've taken the plunge and ordered a set of cyclecat bars. Hopefully they'll arrive the beginning of next week. Before I attempt to fit them and obviously not knowing what the insructions if any are like does anyone have any tips/techniques learnt the hard way from fitting a set themselves?

Just thought it was worth asking before I do something stupid!

turn the throttle round 180 deg...no matter what you do they wont fit otherwise!! Instructions are pretty good and you can go on their web site and have a look there before your bits arrive...

You will need a rubber mallet to get the yolk off.

With luck you will not need to bleed the brakes after fitting the reservoir pipes.

If you have any questions email Alfred at Cyclecat very helpful

You will not regret your purchase:roll:

Thanks chaps. Not sure I understand the bit about the throttle though Bradders, well ok no I don't. I presume you mean the twist grip and relocate the cable somehow? Having not had chance to dismantle the various bits yet I am flying blind a bit. I hope all will become clear when I come to fit it?

In terms of getting the top yoke off M1key is it just a case of undoing the clamp bolts on the forks and steering head after removing the steering damper or are there more things to remove. If I'm whacking it with a rubber mallet I suppose the headlight fairing will have to be removed?

yep - the cable will come out under rather than over your hand and the fast idle may need some adjustment (mine did) do a search on cycle cat coz someone posted pics which helped me a lot....and the rubber mallet thing, top call...give it a bash!!

Hi

It is not essential that you remove the headlight fairing but it will make life easier.

The instructions are really good but all you do is remove the steering damper and undo the yolk clamp allen bolts, quick tap with the rubber mallet and it should lift off.

Remove standard bars and away you go, you will see what bradders means about the throttle when you start putting it all back together

If you are anywhere near me drop me a line and pop round before you start.

The bars allied with a pair rearsets transformed the 748 for me, simply the best mod I have made and if you haven't seen a pair "in the flesh" the quality is amazing

Had a quick look at the throttle etc. last night and I now know where youre coming from - never actually noticed that the switch gear etc is separate from the throttle assembly before. Presumably the fast idle switch will be upside down and close to my thumb after fitting it.

Bars came this morning and look good. Probably fit them at the weekend. Its not clear whether or not I will need to use longer lengths of reservoir hose to relocate the brake and clutch. None were supplied with the kit so I'm assuming I don't - or is it just missing?

Glad you like the bars, you will like the extra length (don't we all)

You will almost certainly need to used the reservoir hose, it looks really trick with the reservoirs re-located

Fit them tonight, you know it will be sunny on saturday:D

You will need to play around withthe height ... when I first set them up, i found them equally as uncomfy as standard !

So play around with them .... mine are just clear of fouling the kill switch on the right hand bar ...

It does not need brake hoses, it does need the rubber hose from the reservoir to the master cylinder and they should be in the box

Thanks M1keyp and pieman, emailed cyclecat and they are sending the hoses, phoned spareshack but was told that I did not need the hose, why they couldn't check another boxed set of bars I don't know! Just hope I'm not waiting too long for it to arrive - want to get on and fit them.

By the way Pieman, they look rather trick adjusters on the top of the forks - who makes them and what do they cost?

To their credit Spareshack posted a set of hoses out to me yesterday. Took the top yoke off and took the opportunity to polish it up at the same time. Now I'm just waiting for the postman...

They made the difference between keeping the 748 or selling it.

They made all the difference:D:D

Just get out and do it !! :D

Once you have the top yoke off you are 30% done anyway ...

But do fiddle with the up and down / fore and aft settings. evetually it will feel right.

The bar end sthey supply stick out for miles ... cut them down.

As has been said made the difference between keeping and selling

All done and dusted. Didn't have time to fit the hoses yesterday. Top yoke back in situ all bolts etc tightened up. Very pleased with the outcome. Theres obviously a lot of thought gone into the design and engineering of them.

Zhed44 - get them fitted, it wouldn't make sense to sell them on without using them in anycase as you'll suffer a loss anyway. Once you've fitted them you won't want to sell. Providing you follow the instructions and the useful tips posted on here you can't go wrong. Oh and you will need a rubber mallet both for taking the yoke off and putting it back on! - top tip M1keyp.

Thanks to all.

thanks forthe info - i think i'll keep them as the one thing i don't like about the 748 is its riding position viz a viz the ultra low bars. however, i think i'll put the bike into a garage to do the work as i'm the world middleweight bolt rounderoffer and thread stripping champion. i don't mind bodging the bandit but i don't want to defile the 748 with my appalling spanner work!

How much do these things cost ?

m1keyp
26-Sep-2005, 20:09
they are not cheap but there is a thread on the 749/999 where they are organising a bulk purchase, perhaps you can get in on that.

Trust me they make all the difference

honestly, you don't know how cack handed i am. example - i recently tried to shorten my hi level pipe (bought for the bandit). in order to get the end of the can lined up correctly i kept cutting more and more off the link pipe.......until i realised that the end which would slip on the can was oval. ooooops - i'd cut as far back as the swaged (flattened) part of the link pipe. oh dear. i had to hammer the end can on, seal it with loads of fire gum and hope for the best. i now have a slip on can which will never, ever slip off......i also hacked some of the other end of the pipe off, but that's another story.

messrs bodgitt & leggitt ltd.

btw: are the ducati performance risers much different to the cyclecat? i paid £95 for DP items.
