View Full Version : 996r Oil drain plug

Decided to change the oil in the 996r, I bought a filter and washer last week and 4 litres of 15w50

Can anyone tell me the procedure for draining the oil as I have not done this on a deep sump engine before. I assume the small hex bolt is the drain plug and the gauze filter is inside the lowest part of the sump secured by the 4 hex bolts?

It goes without saying that the sump plug washer supplied by the dealer is for a normal 996 as it does not seem to relate to anything on my bike!

Cheers

Martin

Thanks Crunchy, however its of no use to me. I needed info for the later deep sump engine. Its totally different down there compared to the 996 etc engine shown in your link.

Thanks anyway

Cheers Rockhopper! Yes its the deep sump engine. Just wanted to know how to get access to the mesh oil screen/filter. Found it on page 56 I think it was. The guy I bought the bike off said he had changed the oil very recently but I didnt think there was any harm in changing it anyway. The oil that came out looked pretty new so I think he was telling the truth.

Thanks for the replies

Thanks Totto as well!

I'll go and see how much oil I can get on my driveway!
